The first person in Sadad Dakhare’s two-bedroom apartment in Oslo, Norway, to show symptoms was his 4-year-old niece. Next, his mother, his sister and he himself fell ill. Then, about a week after his niece became sick, Dakhare heard his 76-year-old father coughing heavily.
He found his father lying in bed, gasping for air. “Just call an ambulance,” the father told Dakhare.
At an Oslo hospital, Dakhare’s father tested positive for COVID-19 and was treated for a few days before he was discharged to finish his recovery at home.
The Dakhare family’s story is a familiar one among Somalis in Norway and other Nordic countries, where the pandemic is taking a disproportionate toll on some immigrant groups. Governments in Sweden, Norway and Finland are taking extra steps to try to slow the spread of the disease in these communities.
In Norway, where 15% of residents were born abroad, 25% who had tested positive for COVID-19 by April 19 were foreign-born. Somalis, with 425 confirmed cases, are the largest immigrant group testing positive, accounting for 6% of all confirmed cases — more than 10 times their share of the population.
Somalis are the most overrepresented immigrant group among Sweden’s confirmed cases, as well. Their 283 positive tests account for about 5% of the nearly 6,000 cases documented between March 13 and April 7. That’s seven times their share of the population. Iraqis, Syrians and Turks also made up disproportionately large shares of positive cases.
In Finland’s capital city of Helsinki, the mayor said it was “worrying” that almost 200 Somalis had tested positive by mid-April. They accounted for about 17% of positive cases — 10 times their share of the city’s population.

They should have stayed in Africa, where the infection rate and death rate is much, much lower.
It’s the vitamin D. People with darker skin don’t absorb it as readily and at that latitude, I’m sure it’s problematic for them.
The bad news is, the actual mortality rate turns out to be about 0.5% of the total number of persons afflicted with COVID-19 Wuhan virus, so the reliance on the disease to effectively remove large numbers of these recent immigrants is a very slim hope, and not to be realized.
It is the close proximity of the Somalis in their own enclaves that makes the transmission so widespread and quick to ravage the entire community. But they achieve “herd immunity” much more quickly than their Nordic neighbors.
Of course, it has nothing to do with the “immigrants’” behavior, that they can do what they want and Allah will protect them. No, it is because the Swedes, Norwegians, etc., being white, are “racists” and that is why the “immigrants” got sick.
Residence in Southern California seems to be associated with lower mortality.
Perhaps also the crowding - large numbers in their hoes, and the same in their mosques.
It’s not PC to ask but could it have to do with sanitary habits?

Light skin produces much more Vitamin D in the scant sunlight of northern climates. Couple this with the “sweet spot” of this virus as to temperature and humidity and you get “Blacks and browns hit hardest”.
But if there isn't, they will fan it anyway.
A week ago or so, the Boston Globe literally headlined: "The Risk Factor for COVID is Living in a Racist Country".
This is not a debate and these are not arguments These are simply blood libels against white people in an attempt to hurt them, displace them, and to create conditions in the future to make their elimination possible.
Treat them for what they are, and do not imagine that appeals to the "facts" as you see them will be effective, the politicians who are fanning these flames, as you correctly put it, already know the facts.
Just sayin’. An attack anticipated is an at attack prevented or at least minimized. They could well tear the country apart.
