Michael Moore is out with a new film the media will hype but most Americans will never see. This speaks well of the latter and poorly of the former.
In a Reuters story promoting Moore's latest, he admits:
Moore said that he, like many people, thought electric cars were a good idea, but I didnt really think about where is the electricity coming from?
That's awesome. Moore has been going around for decades promoting politicians and policies that would basically wreck the economy. He wanted a coronavirus-level economic tsunami before we'd ever heard of Wuhan and its bats.
But he had no idea what he was talking about. He continues.
I assumed solar panels would last for ever. I didnt know what went into the making of them, Moore added, referring to raw materials, including quartz, and the fossil fuels needed to manufacture the panels.
What's the word I'm looking for here? Oh, right. Clueless. Michael Moore is clueless.
I know, that's probably not news to most of our readers. But it's nice to see it confirmed from his own mouth. Michael Moore has pushed medical policy despite having no clue about it, and he has pushed environmental policy despite having no clue about that too.
Let's take electric cars. They're not powered by peace, love and boutique dispensary pot. They're powered by a combination of oil, coal, natural gas, and the most heinous form of energy to some of the left -- nuclear power -- along with wind and solar. So that environmentally conscious and ostentatious Tesla you see zipping down the road isn't any better, really, than your gas car. Its emissions and consequences are just transferred from right where it is to somewhere else. If you're anti-nuke, electric cars are far worse.

The Narrative exists largely to protect people from the dirty and complicated business of facts.
What else are you clueless about, Michael?
I can now tell my ex I must not be an utter fool after all.
No he figures on mounting the windmill on top of his electric car and harnessing the slipstream. He’s a brilliant Liberal that is why is dad used to call him “Sunny”.
My sister has a Prius, and I rode in it.
The tiny, hard little skinny tires & low-slung chassis made my butt feel like it was dragging the pavement, and I could feel every pebble on the road.
The “quiet” engine had a high, almost dogwhistle pitched whine that sounded like a sewing machine on meth. It was just barely audible enough to give me a splitting headache.
No thanks. I’d advise a LONNNNGG test drive before you plunk down your money.
And here I was all along thinking that there were a bunch of hamsters in my walls running on wheels that were connected to AC generators.
We have both gas and battery powered mowers, weed trimmers, and chain & pole saws.
The battery powered tools are great for light duty yards & saplings— what I call “women’s work.” They’re also much easier for me to start.
For people with postage-stamp sized yards they’re perfect.
That said, they just don’t work for mowing acreage & felling the big trees.
“incurious” that seems to be the common denominator for leftists.
For whatever it’s worth, Michael Moors is the first liberal to figure out what’s been obvious to us for years... that energy signatures ARE real. If you’re using corn for fuel you have to add in the energy costs of fertilizer, tractors, farmer’s time and profit, truckers, ethanol factories, transportation etc etc etc... and it’s worse for ‘solar panels...
The fact Michael Moore was late to the party doesn’t detract from him being here. Better late than never... Maybe Moore can talk some sense into the other liberals. There’s only one solution out of this mess - and our side knows what that is... Let’s see if Moore can figure that one out.
Put up solar panels to crack water for the hydrogen. Win/win.
Funny thing, my boss bought a Tesla (he likes it).
Looked into getting Tesla’s solar panel installation thing on his house. But, the only way it would be even kinda worth it is if they covered the south side of his house (front) with the panels. But, the city won’t let them do it - panels have to be installed on back or sides only, where they are minimally visible from the street.
Forget the green excuse for electric cars. The above is the exact reason electric cars are good. They literally use any fuel that is available. Hydroelectric where available, natural gas where available, Nuclear power (though the number of nuclear plants are dwindling). An electric car takes advantage of the best way to make electricity for a particular area.
A typical coal plant has about 35% efficiency in converting coal energy into electrical energy. You lose 5% in transmission losses and 15% loss in charging an electric car. The electric motor in a tesla is 93% efficient at converting electric energy. So an electric car has an efficiency of about 26% of converting coal based electrical energy into power for your car drive train. (35% (coal eff)* 95% (transmission) * 85% (charging) * 93% (motor)).
A typical combustion engine is 20% efficient. Improvements in Coal power efficiency push newer plants to 48%. Which would boost an electric car to 29.7%. Newer natural gas plants can get to 60% efficiency (38% of electricity is from natural gas in the US) . So I look at an electric car as a variable fuel car. It easily captures the power from the grid. It's a coal, natural gas, oil, nuclear, solar and wind power machine all at the same time.
I knew where electricity came from when I was 7 or 8.
...and then he stuffed six Twinkies into his mouth at once.
