I think au pair girls tend to be live in hired help aren’t they?
It would be interesting to know how much they get paid. Why are so many foreigners doing this sort of work. Is it because of low pay and tough working conditions, pay and working conditions that American born people don’t want to do? Just a thought.
They get room and board and money for personal expenses. Agree....pay...how much?
$195.75 a week. It’s regulated.
For some au pairs, they are students, and spending six months to a year perfecting their English and becoming familiar with US culture is part of their education.
For others, they are just third world slave labor.

My Japanese niece works as an au pair. She likes to travel, shes working on her English, and she teaches Japanese to the kids. She usually works for Japanese-heritage people in the country shes in. Shes currently in New Zealand, but she has lived in the US, Canada and the UK as well.
Actually, MOST of the YL that come here to be nannies/au pair are HUSBAND HUNTING & MOST of the GOOD ones succeed in finding an American spouse.
