An anti-malaria drug touted by President Trump as a potential "game changer" amid the coronavirus outbreak showed no benefit for patients, according to an analysis of those hospitalized in Veterans Health Administration medical centers.
The analysis found the two primary outcomes for COVID-19 patients treated with hydroxychloroquine were death and the need for mechanical ventilation.

I regard that as fake news, created for political reasons.
Dr. Zelenko has proven otherwise (as have many others).
From what we can gather it only is beneficial before you get to the hospital, when you need a ventilator its to late.

The article (merits or dispirits aside) is like crack for liberals. Read the comment section. Wow.
The left is dug in on this and will never provide any other message. Doctors worldwide have found it helped people especially early on. It seems to have little value further into the illness. I can prevent getting there.

I agree....sounds like they were playing with it. What else did these vets have? They were not new adsmissions. Something just doesn’t sound right.

As Dr Zelenko has elucidated, by the time a patient requires a ventilator with corona, their death rate is above 50%.
Your VA at work for you. They can even kill people with CV-19(china virus) with a PROVEN track record of treating 100’s of thousand of CV-19 patients with excellent outcomes. Only the VA can be that incompetent.

Yes, it is anecdotal — and that shows why clinical trials are so important. Anecdotal evidence cuts both ways.
And, yes, I’m on record here as supporting allowing anyone who wants it to be allowed to take it — on the basis of “it might work” and, “what have you got to lose?” (which is all that Pres. Trump ever said about it too).

“Researchers analyzed medical records of 368 male veterans hospitalized with confirmed coronavirus infection at Veterans Health Administration medical centers who died or were discharged by April 11.
About 28% who were given hydroxychloroquine plus usual care died, versus 11% of those getting routine care alone. About 22% of those getting the drug plus azithromycin died too, but the difference between that group and usual care was not considered large enough to rule out other factors that could have affected survival.”
This article doesn’t give numbers or reasons for who got the drug and who didn’t, ages, comorbidities, any variables about the patients, nothing. The study was not peer reviewed (obviously).
