After 92 years, the Native American woman on the packaging of Land O’Lakes products has finally been released from her tenure as an advertising icon. The company announced it would be removing the controversial illustration that has appeared on its packaging since 1928 in a press release back in February, and now the new packaging has started rolling out in keeping with the company’s slated spring/summer timeline.

You don’t change a iconic logo that has been very successful and is instantly recognizable for any other reason.

If there is anything blatantly “ridiculous” it’s your naivete’

Aw I don’t give a damn what image they use on their box. Maybe they could recycle the old Marilyn Chambers Ivory Soap photos. I’ll still buy the stuff. If you can afford it ghee tastes way better anyway and you can get it at Kroger’s.

Time was, when 99% of American Indians approved of sports symbols which depicted Indians as warriors.

Now, the political image of Indians has become that of an overweight clenched fist squaw quoting Marx, even as their casinos on the res are making filthy capitalist dollars hand over fist.

My old company went through a re-branding campaign some years ago. I said the same thing back then that you posted right there. I was genuinely surprised when my company’s VP of marketing sent me a list of all the times two iconic brands — Ford and Coca-Cola — had changed THEIR logos over the years.

That’s a very good point. I’ll bet most Americans who have never met an American Indian would suddenly have a very negative view of these brand images if they met one for the first time tomorrow.

Not really sure about Ford as their logo never made much of an impression on me.

Coca Cola however has been remarkably consistent (with only minor alteration ) to their logo for over 100 years.

Same here, although every once in a while we buy Irish butter as a treat.

Oh my!!!

Reminds me of when I moved to California and saw bumper stickers that read “in and out...(second line) urge”. I was disgusted...then found out they were from In and Out Burger. They cut off the b and r and put it on their tailgates by the thousands! Result, reformat bumper stickers!!

Rednecks!
