Protection measures against the coronavirus continued to tear through the employment ranks, with 5.245 million more Americans filing first-time claims for unemployment insurance last week, the Labor Department reported Thursday.

The new filings bring the crisis total to just over 22 million, nearly wiping out all the job gains since the Great Recession.

The total was a bit worse than the 5 million expected from economists surveyed by Dow Jones.

ANOTHER 50 MILLION WILL LOSE THEIR JOBS AND EVERYONE WILL LOSE THEIR 401K RETIREMENT. Sorry, that’s what’s coming if the Governors don’t open up the economy.

This explains why Schumer, Pelosi,... and the Press has been sounding so giddy and happy.

There should be riots in the streets. It’s sad to see everyone taking this laying down. Do people want to work? The media doesn’t show it but I suspect people are very upset with this over reaction (unwilling to fight though).

And just how many of those “non-essential” government jobs been lost? Hmmmm....

Not only are they all still getting paid, like Cuomo, but their defined benefit pensions have been going UP. Meanwhile people are taking pay cuts, losing jobs, and losing more in their 401k's then they can make up in 5 years. Get the picture? No wonder the "government" isn't in a hurry to open things up. Fauci gets his paycheck and retirement without losing one cent.

This shutdown just proves we have WAY too many government parasites on OUR payroll. Time to cull the herd on these grifters.

There are still some in here that assure everyone of a V recovery. Ain’t gonna happen. It will take years to fully recover from this...and that’s assuming the economy revs back up right away.

Wanna know what kills way more people than CV19? Poverty.

Yep, anyone 55 and up hoping to retire in their mid 60's will have to reevaluate.

Anyone looking to retire in their mid sixties will be dead in 10 years. Work = Purpose, No purpose = No reason to live. My grandparents lived in their 90’s and worked their whole lives. Retiring at 65 is a fiction. They volunteered delivering meals, hospitals, etc. Sitting on their ass, playing golf 5 days a week, playing cards, acting like an old fart = death by 75. Work on staying healthy and productive into your 80’s instead of fixating on sitting on how you can sit on your ass, thinking like you are living off your money like Rockefeller...is Financial player\Stock Broker fantasy.

My Dad is 83 and retired at 55. He did some traveling, but sat on his butt from probably age 60 up until now.

His quality of life sucks, though, so you’re right about that aspect of it. :(
