A pair of scientists believe that up to 270,000 residents of California have the novel coronavirus, 10 times more cases than have been reported.
The researchers estimate that up to 4.8 percent of the total US population was infected with the virus by April 6 - 40 times the number of confirmed cases.
They also suggest that almost 50 percent of New Yorkers, which comes out to around nine million people, are likely infected, reported the San Francisco Chronicle.

There was little high-quality data available a few weeks ago. If the CFR were as high as estimates made then, herd immunity would have cost too many lives. Since then, we have better data and therapeutic drugs. The price of herd immunity has dropped by orders of magnitude.
If half of the population of New York already has it, then they are very close to herd immunity already.
Well, I'm not sure that is correct. Fifty thousand people die of the flu every year and not one peep from anyone. Eight thousand Americans die each and every day, about.... Not a peep. This flu comes along and the death rate for Americans is actually BELOW the rate last year. Then you have the CDC telling Doctors that if a deceased person had sniffed the exhaust of a truck that carried away the dirty laundry of a person who read about the corona virus... that person was to be listed as dead from the corona virus. Put that together and if something smells a little fishy...

39 times 633,000 known victims = 24,687,000.
.8% * 24687000 = 197,496 dead rather than the current estimate of 30,000.
Sorry those numbers just don't match.
1. NO ONE is an expert on Covid-19, and the statements of the plethora of 'experts' on the news shows need to be taken with appropriate skepticism.
2. The current RT-PCR-based Covid-19 tests are likely capturing <70% of cases. It is also entirely possible that the Covid-19 sequences targeted will mutate - leading to more false negative testing.
3. There are no magic bullet therapeutics at this point, including chloroquine/hydroxychloroquine. They may have some therapeutic effects, but they are not 'miraculous' cures.
4. Anyone who dogmatically states that this virus did not originate in the virology institute in Wuhan is not honest, or not considering all the facts. It is a very, very real possibility.
I think they are still under estimating, it is more. You have to get the entire number of people exposed and detection depends on accurate tests and good sampling

Exactly. I suspect the “issue” with the inability to get more testing deployed is it will destroy their vendetta against Trump. The Ministry of Propaganda even admits this in the “news”, and the sheeple think “Wow, this bug really IS that bad! Where is my free sh*t?”

The fact is that for a virus to be really deadly, it generally is the worst when you do not have prior exposure to it, especially in the overall population as a whole. Vaccines are generally another form of exposure, but with many diseases, the vaccines aren’t as permanent as actually getting the disease and recovering from it. My father is more immune to measles than I am because he actually got it and recovered from it with no vaccine back in the day.
