Looking at ALL deaths in New York in past 20 years(follows a pretty stable pattern and no games with how cause of death is coded) about twice as many died in this past month as in the same time period in previous years. It definitely has had far more impact than the regular flu in terms of velocity.

You may have a LOOOOOOOOOONG wait. Developing a vaccine for a virus is tricky.

I totally agree. And, as you say, it may never happen. But, some effective and easily obtainable drugs will come along to treat it.

“You get COVID-19 you have a 1 in 5 chance of dying if you are 65 and older and or have risk factors.”

You’re right, of course. My mistake is my concern is for my kids and grandkids. And for them, I want a healthy country, one with liberty, and a functioning economy.

I don’t want to catch it. I will do what I can to mitigate exposure. However, I’d rather catch the darn thing, then watch my country collapse economically, and see wanna be dictators strip away our rights.

Yes, it’s easy to be bold behind a keyboard, but I’m being as honest as I can be. Just as honest as when I signed up for 4 years in the USN, when I didn’t have to go, and projecting 4 years of peacetime was unheard of.

I’m healthy, late 50’s, on zero medication, however, I think it would be a tough battle for me, it could kill me, it’s killed far healthier. It is a worry ...

That would be my preference as well. How long are you willing to be locked down while you wait for a vaccine or cure? Do you also agree with forcing others to remain in lock down with you?

It is a worry. It is worth taking precautions. It’s killed heathier, and it has also barely sickened less healthy. Like much in life, it’s a gamble.

I don’t want it, I don’t want to see anyone get it. In my cost-benefit analysis, herd immunity is the real answer. Prove me wrong.

Instead of wasting time trying to trying to talk other people into catching it, you need to bite the bullet and go catch it yourself since you believe it’s a good idea.

Then you can speak from experience and be more convincing.

Prove me wrong.

The fact that you don’t have it doesn’t mean you weren’t exposed. I mean, have you absolutely sanitized every thing you bring in the house? Do you open your mail with gloves? I could go on and on.

If the virus manages to invade your body, you will have it. How it will affect you depends upon many factors. You would be surprised at how effective a solution of bleach and water on a damp towel is for killing viruses. Works on your hands, too. As long as you sanitize your hands after touching any unknown surface, you can touch your face all you want. As far as sanitizing everything that comes in, that's what my nurse family members do at the facilities they work in. They have to. They are in direct contact with infectious people daily. When they come home from work, they walk from the garage to the washroom and immediately dump their clothes in the washing machine. This is usually after they have already changed clothes once at the end of their shift. They then walk straight to the shower. They have worked with everything from COVID to AIDS to measles to tuberculosis. They are isolation nurses and they have been doing this for years. If everyone operated like they do, opening this country back up would not be a problem. But, as long as you have the flubros and careless individuals walking around, it's a different story.

Which is a major reason that you should want to have herd immunity extant in the community. When herd immunity has been achieved, the chances of you picking up the virus is substantially reduced.

I want to die enjoying life. Not holed up in my house. The only time i spend time at home is when it’s bad weather and sometimes not even then.

In NYC I suspect every flu case is classified as caronavirus.

Let me guess; out of the 1000, 800 didn’t even know they had it, 195 feel like they have the flu or the blahs, and 5 are being treated at home. All are now quarantined for 2-3 weeks pending two negative test results.

How did we manage with H1N1 in 2009 that killed more people and was a more serious virus? Yet the economy just kept rolling along like nothing happened but with this one the world had to be stopped.

I smell rotten fish.

Gov Noem is being pilloried by the press becsuse she didnt follow the paniced herd and shut down the state. South Dakota despite the condemnation by the corrupt media will be fine. Tbe jump in mumbers is due to increased testing not new infections. There will be more deaths in vulnerable populations like in nursing homes, but very low in overall population. A bad year for flu would take more lives.
