Liberate America by Turning the Political Pain up to 11

The late Sage of Baltimore, H. L. Mencken, once wrote, “Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.”

Polling suggests that America’s governors and mayors have done the terrified, beaten-down people’s bidding after saturation media coverage of panic-inducing epidemiological modeling made Americans strangely docile.

If a poll released by Zogby Analytics on April 10 is to be believed, a supermajority of likely voters are fine with the lockdowns -- and perhaps the harsh un-American tactics -- used by states and localities to secure compliance with their emergency fiats aimed at the Chinese novel coronavirus that causes the occasionally deadly disease COVID-19.

According to the polling firm, social distancing policies enjoy bipartisan support, while 84 percent of “likely voters at least somewhat support federal, state and local governments telling Americans that they can’t go to work to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.” The older you are, the more likely you are to support the lockdowns. Only 889 likely voters were polled.

Even if we assume the poll results reflect reality, they are almost three weeks old; the survey ran from March 24 through 26.

Death forecasts since then have been drastically revised downward and the public mood seems a little less bleak.

Peak Fear is probably behind us.

Three weeks ago, re-opening the country was barely on the radar as the nation attempted a partial trial run of the Green New Deal and do-gooder snitches started turning America into East Germany. Back then Americans, shocked and awed into becoming couch potatoes, were still struggling to figure out how to wear face masks to the grocery store, if only they could find them.

Peak fear is dead ahead boy o.

It’s the fear of economic ruination and a hopelessness of no future. It will dwarf the fear of the virus in short order.

You will be hugely surprised (and I hope happy) about how wrong your prognostications will be.

A Chinese-style hard lockdown has a record of success.

Our soft lockdowns are letting 2000 people a day die.

Just 14 days of total quarantine should work very well. PRN

I think the postmortem of this ordeal will show that the initial freakout was justified by the dire lack of accurate, tangible data about the nature of the sickness - thanks a lot for nothing, ChiComs. People were WTF, this is strange scary stuff, quick, slam the doors, shut it down, yipes! After a bunch of wild oscillations of expectations made by people who are paid well to supposedly know better turned out as gross exaggerations, the support began receding right there. I see and hear it around me all the time now, patience deteriorating by the day. The choices by the powers-that-be now are to try and keep their jurisdictions clamped down in spite of what the evidence is and build the wrath of their citizens or devise reasonable plans to wind down the shutdown that will in turn bring down the tension and provide an avenue to give the people what they want in getting back to normal.

CHOICE kills about 3,000 a day.

If the want the country to open up then I think Congress should set the example. Convene both houses now. Get everyone in the Capitol, on the floor of the House and Senate, and leave them there until they finish their business.

Trump did an EXCELLENT job of turning it up to 11 yesterday.

Monday he tosses out the line about having “absolute authority.”

Democrat Governors and the media spend the next 24 hrs. squealing like stuck pigs about the 10th. Amendment.

Trump meets with Coronoavirus survivors at the White House to show America that most people do survive this.

He takes to the microphones and runs through a whole litany about how Andrew Cuomo and others wildly overestimated their need for ventilators and other resources. Shows that the system in New York did not crash and we are in a position to see to it that it won’t anywhere else.

Then he announces its time to reopen the country.

But he tosses the responsibility for that decision back to the Governors, who are after all demanding their rights under the 10th. Amendment. They now own the success of reopening (or not). That lands in their laps like an M80 with the fuse lit.

Then he reads out a list of 200+ top leaders of American industry who are going to be their opponents if they try and drag their feet on reopening.

Then he announces that if they do a bad job of this “we’ll be all over them”. Mike drop. Boom!

I am sitting here in absolute awe of the man today.

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE:

Your mission President Trump, given that you know we need to start opening the economy in 2 weeks, is to:

1) Get the recalcitrant Democrat Governors to support your opening and in fact create groups of governors to prepare their sates to open. Especially given these governors were quite weak in preparing their own states for the virus. And they need to form their coalitions immediately.

2) Get the media to get behind the fact that it is the Governors responsibility to open up their states and get moving on a plan now.

SOLUTION: Trump makes this seemingly impossible stuff easy as a snap.

If he simply takes the OPPOSITE stand, the media and the Dem Governors will fight him and demand the oppositie action.

So what does Trump do: Simple, he announces he will be in charge and open the country.

Immediately, the Dems and the media say he can’t do that, they knock each other down saying the Governors will have their own plans, immediately to prepare.

The next day, after doing the impossible, Trump says...O.K. The Governors all what to do it and will prepare, and I’ll just keep an eye on them.

Easy Peezzy

Yup. He has learned that they will always do the exact opposite of what he says, which makes them very easy to manipulate.

It's been hilarious in a ways. At first all the griping about not being authoritative enough, then right when he tries to lay claim to such powers "You don't tell US what to do, Orange Hitler!" POTUS: Well, okey dokey, all yours then.

They own any stink now.

Then he reads out a list of 200+ top leaders of American industry who are going to be their opponents if they try and drag their feet on reopening.

I posted about that last Thursday. They're gonna have something to say about all that. Multi-millions in assets and income at stake - chains are gonna get yanked, markers called in.

Yep, most of the deaths are a month to a few months premature. Some of the rest are medical errors like intubation of ambulatory patients. There is some mortality not in those categories, more than a typical flu.

Lockdowns have helped lower mortality IMO. But using the "hard lockdown" theory based on the lying chicomm numbers is pointless.

It is possible that we took most of the people who were going to die of old age or chronic illness in 2020 and compressed their deaths into a period of a few weeks.

If that theory is correct we’ll see a corresponding drop on the graph of the overall death rate later in the year.

Yes that’s correct. But there will be fewer deaths as a whole in 2020. Mortality is already only 88% of normal.

Michigan has it turned up right now.

Commie/lib/NAZI Governor has her panties so tight we are all feeling the Socialism...

I suspect every boat/cottage owner, every business owner, everyone else who was effected by her totalitarianism will now vote against any ticket with a (D) next to it, including Binden’s. I hope she does get the VP at this point, because I suspect MI is RED.
