Trump Declares He Alone Has Authority To Reopen State Economies

President Trump on Monday declared that he alone has the authority to “open up the states.”

Trump said the decision will be up to him “for many good reasons” — even though state governors have issued mandatory stay-at-home orders and have specific powers to do so under the 10th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

“For the purpose of creating conflict and confusion, some in the Fake News Media are saying that it is the Governors decision to open up the states, not that of the President of the United States & the Federal Government. Let it be fully understood that this is incorrect…” Trump wrote on Twitter.

“… It is the decision of the President, and for many good reasons. With that being said, the Administration and I are working closely with the Governors, and this will continue. A decision by me, in conjunction with the Governors and input from others, will be made shortly!”

Trump did not specify what authority he would use to force states to re-open. Governors have wide powers to control their own states, and the 10th Amendment says “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

Problem for little tyrant Dem governors like Whitmer in MI (the dirty hag): Trump will say go out and work and buy and enjoy yourselves within precautions, on a rolling basis by area involved.

The Whitmer types will say:
“No way. I am the Supreme Queen and I rule you stay inside, don’t go out to pray, only leave to go to get an abortion or buy marijuana or liquor, and stay in your home. Or else.”

Will the people revolt? Will they use massive resistance? They are pretty darn sick of staying at home watching TV and arguing with their families.

Trump is actually right in this case. States can’t on one hand demand all these federal resources, and not give the president the authority to re-open it. He could easily make those resources contingent on re-opening. I don’t think it comes to that, but Trump is right in the end.

Not to quibble, but the 10th Amendment doesn't identify "specific powers". It's intended to be broad and general -- states can do what they want unless the Constitution specifically forbids it.

Not exactly. It's simply making explicit that FedGov can't assume powers that the Constitution doesn't grant. While that seems like an obvious statement, our forefathers were wise enough to see liberals coming about. Unfortunately, no one put a stop to them when it would have been much easier.

The States can't just go and do anything as long as it's not mentioned in the Constitution - that's why the States have their own Constitutions. The powers not granted the Federal Government are ONLY still inherent in the people. The States have absolutely nothing on their own, But their Constitutions are just a smaller version where the people grant their State government certain powers. They may be overlapping with Federal powers, or extra ones that the people didn't give FedGov, but it stands that the States are just as limited by their Constitutions as the FedGov is by these US's Constitution.

States signed on to his emergency delaration I believe that puts him in charge. Glad to see it because some states are violating Const-rights.

Partner, I have always believed that these men who wrote the Declaration of Independence and our Constitution were men called of God to be on this good earth at that appointed time.

This guy Fauci has been way off on his predictions and so it that Birx gal. The number of deaths started at 300,000 and then it went down to 150,000 and this was revised to 82,000 deaths could occur with this virus.

Now this number has been revised to 60,000 folks would die.

Can you believe it that this number is way off the mark.

The MSM is supposedly doing all the heavy lifting for these 2 highly paid individuals.

Even NYC is padding the numbers claiming the folks that died from this virus will be added to the total number of deaths due to the Corona virus. What a crock!!!

They do not tell the folks like myself that NYC is getting paid $40,000 for each additional death. Another Crock.

The thing that is really disturbing about these deaths is that "We the People" are paying the taxes for these idiots in NYC to claim the $$$$ for each additional death.
