I worked for a man who started a business after his retirement as a bank President to get away from his wife. He joked that he never realized what a bitch she was until he retired!
He started a small but profitable trucking business that he ran until his death at age 74. At his mistresses house!
Then WE found out what a bitch she was.
I don’t blame the old boy for having “retirement activities” to keep him busy. ;)

I teach in urban America. Hate my job, but it pays the bills. Wife works at home during faux virus. Never ever thought I’d say this...but I want to go back to school, now.
The other reason is because work gives meaning to so many people, even those who don’t enjoy their work very much. People have to have something that provides self-worth.
