Former Vice President Joe Biden released plans to expand Medicare eligibility and forgive some student debt as he works to unite a fractured Democratic base behind his presumptive 2020 nomination.
Biden announced Thursday he would lower the Medicare eligibility age to 60 and forgive student debt for low-income and middle class families who attended public colleges and universities, historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and underfunded minority-serving institution (MSIs).
The proposals mark an initial olive branch to supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), some of whom have expressed skepticism at Bidens centrist brand of politics and were dismayed when the Vermont progressive withdrew from the race Wednesday. Biden specifically referenced Sanderss advocacy for the two issues in a Medium post announcing his plans.
I believe that as we are being plunged into what is likely to be one of the most volatile and difficult economic times in this countrys recent history, we can take these critical steps to help make it easier for working people to make ends meet, Biden wrote. Senator Sanders and his supporters can take pride in their work in laying the groundwork for these ideas, and Im proud to adopt them as part of my campaign at this critical moment in responding to the coronavirus crisis.

Pandering for sure. But pandering works on a hell of a lot of people. This could get him votes.
You nailed it. When theyre staring at financial ruin, people tend to get a little less fussy about libertarian principles, and a little more accepting of a government safety net. Teddy Roosevelt knee that, so these ideas are not without a place in the Republican tradition
Won’t make it through the Senate. Regardless of which party controls it.
No kidding. How to we look the poor kiddies in the eye and say No soup for you. After coughing up $6 Trillion from nowhere to bail out business.
He’s gone full AOC Squad, and Sanders. IOW MARXIST!!! His ambition has run away with whatever good sense he ever had.
Why am I remembering soft drink brands that supposedly failed after people asserted they caused fertility problems among black men?
"We cannot let this, weve never allowed any crisis from the Civil War straight through to the pandemic of 17, all the way around, 16, we have never, never let our democracy sakes second fiddle, way they, we can both have a democracy and elections and, at the same time, correct the public health. You dog-faced pony soldier!

Poor simpleton trying to buy an election. Sorry, pervert...not going to work!
[democracy sakes second fiddle]
Ma’am the dog-face banana patch!!

In Socialist Communism this is common to see. It is the absolute leveling of the playing field and erasing any lines on the field. Unless you are a member of the “Party,” you are screwed. But, you don’t care because you would never play on that field anyway. You will have your own “Members Only” Club that, as long as you are not shot in the back of the head for doing something stupid like complaining to anybody that you thought that life would be better. The USA has many areas where the gulag camps can be located for those sentenced to many years of hard labor.
If you want a lawyer to defend you, you should have voted for Donald J Trump.
I will be sending a bill to the US Treasury for my college costs.
Now that Bernie has been bought and paid for and out of the race, Biden is free to run around and play “Bernie lite”. Biden is now campaigning to capture Bernie’s dimwit supporters votes. You’ve got to hand it to ole Bernie. He’s fooled his voters twice now and made a bundle doing it. Who knew Bernie was a Capitalist?
What relevance would that have? Ill ask again, paraphrasing my previous comment, now that the government has destroyed the economic prospect of many a young person while helicoptering $10 trillion onto the country covering PBS, Howard college, airlines, big business, what basis is their to not drop some of that helicopter cash on student loans? Are the ruined economic prospects any less worthy of helicopter money than a greedy business owner?
Explain how Trump will resist that logic. Or maybe you can answer the question instead using a diversionary question.
All Im saying is how can anyone defend it politically?
The whole logic of the helicopter money is that the recipients did nothing wrong and it was the government that caused the calamity.
Young people borrowed money to finance a career which the government has now for some of them impaired their ability to earn an income.
Not one of those have a chance in hell of passing
I wouldn’t be so confident of that with unemployment sure to be near 10% on election day.
How about Joe’s green energy plans that would csuse mass unemployment in coal country..of course the coal miners can all learn to write computer code and get good jobs
