For the most part Canada’s healthcare system really sucks. You wait and wait and wait for an appointment for an MRI you name it waiting times are ridiculous so except when it comes to abortions. Those are top priority around here.

But when push comes to shove doctors are there. When my daughter was 18 months old she had ear infection after ear infection. I had to drive her to the hospital in northern Quebec took me about 30 minutes. A bunch of us were waiting I’m waiting in the crowd no one was had been called for at least 2 hours maybe more. I want up to the receptionist and I said what is going on? She said the doctor is having his dinner. I said what?! are you telling me that in this entire hospital there is not one of the doctor that can be see these people? Then I turned around to the crowd and I said are you going to put up with this? This is absurd people. This was of course in my crappy French. Needless to say oh, my daughter was seen with about within 15 minutes. And the line started moving.

Canadians are basically sheep I’m sorry but they are. Americans on the other hand get things done. That’s just who we are. We decide to settle the West we did we decide to find gold in the mountains we did we decide to slaughter the Indians we did LOL. I’m sorry that’s not really funny.

I told my children my daughter 20, and my son 24, that they are probably two of the most fortunate people on the planet. They were born in the United States, in Denver. And they’re Canadian from their father. I told them you guys can live and work pretty much anywhere you want. I’m not sure if they really understand just how fortunate they are. But what is good is that they’re old enough to remember what it was like pre coronavirus young enough to experience the whole coronavirus plague, and young enough to see what the world will be like.
I think it would be a very different world the entertainment industry is dead. Who is going to want to sit right next to a stranger to watch a play a ballet an orchestral performance no one. Hotels and airplanes as well. People are not going to want to travel. Life will be very very different

I’m in Alberta and have never experienced your version of Canadian health care. I have never waited more than 20 minutes to see a Dr. and when one of my kids needed an MRI she had it the next day. The quality of your healthcare depends on your Provincial Governments spending priorities.

Yes, and I say this as a Canadian, Canadians ARE sheep. Polls show that while Americans distrust their media, Canadians love their media. They love the fact CBC is state owned. They love the fact the RCMP changes the rules constantly to make criminals out of honest gun owners. And you never ever talk smack about the health care system here.

You are probably right, but I hope it doesn’t last for too long. Just like the 9-11 attacks, we have forgotten a lot of those lessons and life has returned to normal, but with the increased airplane security. (And hiring/electing lots of muslims to government positions.??!!)

I suppose looking back on the 1918 Pandemic we can look on that and see how long the adjustment was. Although entire nations didn’t just shut down back then either. How to deal with this pandemic was new to all of us (leaders included). How to deal coming out of it will be too. I know that we will have to fight to make all of the control the governors and the President have now - to get them to give it back.

I can just see my governor (Inslee, Washington) use this virus as a springboard to all of his climate change crap. “Just like we shut down everything to save us from the virus, we will shut down all fossil fuel use in the state to save us from climate change.”

As I was scrubbing something down and talking about something virus related my wife asked me “So - do you think you’ll ever be the same?”

She didn’t mean it in a mean way, but I sort of took it that way. “Oh, I’m sure I will.” Sort of like when a person you love gets an injury or sick, and you are all worried and dote over them. Then, once they are better you go back to normal and pissed when they leave their dirty socks in the middle of the floor.
