NBC Analysis: Two months in, Trump's coronavirus response creates more chaos
NBC "News" / Comcast ^ | April 5, 2020 | By Jonathan Allen (D-NBC)

WASHINGTON - More than two months into what President Donald Trump calls a "war" against COVID-19, his administration's efforts to combat the deadly disease, along with its disastrous effects on the U.S. economy, are often creating more problems than they solve.

Bidding wars for life-saving equipment, a power struggle between Trump's son-in-law and the vice president, political gamesmanship, the centralization of authority and decentralization of accountability, and the creation of new government programs while standing bureaucracies are ignored, have all contributed to chaos within the political, economic and health care systems.

Banks haven't been able to process loan applications for a new Small Business Administration relief program, companies trying to produce personal protective equipment for medical professionals can't get the Federal Emergency Management Administration's attention, and doctors and ventilators at ambulatory surgery centers idled by a soft moratorium on elective operations are on the sidelines.

Those problems are minor compared to the crunch of rising coronavirus cases, the scarcity of ventilators and the possibility that trillions of dollars in aid won't be enough - or well-directed enough - to prevent a catastrophic economic collapse.

It all adds up to a sense that no one is really in charge in the midst of the most daunting crisis the nation has faced in generations.

"This country is re-learning what it understood during the Cold War - we don't elect presidents for the good days, we elect them to handle the bad days," said Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif. "Donald Trump is incapable of handling a bad day, let alone a protracted pandemic."

Go track down Pelosi on tape on that Chinatown quote, she said: be unified with the community, be vigilant about what is on the horizon, be careful about how we deal with it, and come to Chinatown. Like a good politician, she hedged enough there not to look too bad.

Biden too, never specifically said "banning flights" was xenophobic, just that Trump was xenophobic. Now to you and me, it is obvious he was saying that because of the flight ban, but like Pelosi, even deep into senility, he is enough of a politician to leave himself enough room to weasel out of that. This is what Biden said, “We are in the midst of a crisis with the coronavirus. We need to lead the way with science — not Donald Trump’s record of hysteria, xenophobia, and fear-mongering. He is the worst possible person to lead our country through a global health emergency.” That's not something you can cut it into a campaign ad.

The US leads the world in fake news media. They think their job is to put Trump to blame for all. Their message is to kill millions of babies along the way.

Come on FLUBRO, time to admit those raising the warning flag were right. You guys messed up, and think this is a winning election message? Seriously, at least get your story straight and start blaming the CCP and FDA and WHO for the crisis. Denial doesn't work when the headline look like this.

Yes, Hillary, who couldn’t be bothered to rescue our people in Benghazi, would have been right on the ball on the Wuhan-China virus. Election night and the months thereafter show how well she handles “bad days”.

I assume that Swalwell is supporting the presumed democrat candidate for President, Joe Biden as the man to replace Donald Trump. Ole Joe will show everyone how it’s done—if he can ever figure out what ‘it’ is.

Meanwhile, the media, those ever-trusty guardians of the public welfare, are doing everything in their dwindling power to calm the situation and bring order to a potential catastrophe.

This may offend leftists and some Trump supporters, but I think that the response to CV under a Hillary presidency would have been similar - but probably a bit worse - than under Trump.

The CDC bureaucracy would have been as unprepared as it apparently was under Trump, and would have issued the same early statements that the disease was not a major threat. The CDC would have changed its views as new information became available, as it did under Trump.

We would have seen the same shortages of masks and ventilators, the same delays in testing, and the same controversies about what to do or not to do.

The WHO would have been as deferential to China as it is under Trump, and China would have been as duplicitous as it was under Trump.

Hillary would have been far less likely than Trump to issue a travel ban against China, and "we must not offend China or the Chinese community" would have been watchwords. "Let's all celebrate the Chinese New Year" would have been trumpeted from the White House.

The press would have been far more deferential to Hillary, propping her up and supporting her instead of trying to attack her at every moment. The situation would probably be a bit worse, but would SEEM much better, because the press would be creating a very different mood, a mood of "Let's get behind our wonderful leader Hillary Rodham Clinton!! Stronger together!!"

The chaos is coming from liberal governors and mayors. They are working with Pelosi and the MSM to tar and feather President Trump. More so than to enforce the social distancing in their metropolitan areas. They don’t give a rats *** about the people dying in their hospitals as THEY control the tools and PPEs in their state stockpiles. President Trump is having to deal with the meager national stockpiles that were depleted by the Obama/Biden administration. Blaming President Trump is not addressing the needs of our doctors, nurses, and truckers (i.e. the Governor of Pennsylvania war on truckers access to facilities). This November we’ll see if the MSM and the democraps are successful in their war on America.
