FWIW...I saw an interesting idea of using a (new😀) vacuum bag to make a face mask. We have an Oreck and just a few months ago I bought a new supply of bags. They’re hypoallergenic and a decent filter. Maybe you could get an extra piece of mind if you’re going out?
