Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said it’s unknown how long flights from other countries will continue operating, so Americans abroad who wish to return should do so immediately.
Pompeo warned that the window to bring Americans home from abroad could be closing.
Pompeo said more than 26,000 U.S. citizens from more than 50 countries have been repatriated back to the U.S.
The top diplomat said the repatriation task force remains committed to bringing all Americans home.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is urging Americans who are still abroad and wish to return to the United States to do so “immediately,” as commercial and government-chartered flights could soon stop due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“Americans who wish to return home from abroad should do so immediately and make arrangements to accomplish that,” Pompeo said during a Tuesday briefing.
Pompeo said his repatriation task force is committed to bringing all U.S. citizens home, but cautioned that the window to do so is becoming more narrow.
“We do not know how long the commercial flights in your countries may continue to operate,” he said. “We can’t guarantee the U.S. government’s ability to arrange charter flights indefinitely where commercial options no longer exist.”

My son has been working in Australia the past 11 years. He caught the last Quantas flight to the U.S. out of Sydney a week ago.
Missionary work, is one big reason.
It’s about the only bit of fresh air he enjoys.

I agree 100%. This is a lot more than virus or capturing some drug traffickers in the Carribean.
My wife is in Taiwan. We would bring her home but worried about infected people on the airplane. I think it is safer if she stays there.

That makes sense. There are maybe missionaries and teachers abroad, too. I can see not wanting to come back if where Americans are does not have the Covid19 as bad as it seems to be in the USA. What will coming home do at this time?

Not possible. Air filtration on aircraft does not filter out the rather large rod shaped cells of tuberculosis. Which is why tuberculosis is making a comeback from all the “open borders” illegals who have had it for some time, and never gotten any kind of treatment. That is, treatment with antibiotic regimen which kills it.
The size any virus would be too tiny to filter, and unless the air was being treated with electrical grid static screen, and even then— would not eradicate airborne virus.
I know what you say is true .... was simply repeating what someone told me when I asked why planes were still flying ..... answers are faulty and outright lies when someone’s ox is being gored
Philippines is much safer than the US re coronavirus. The climate prevents New York style consequences.
The real dangers in the PI are economic and social consequences of trade disruption and lock downs, both domestic and through loss of income from laid off overseas workers. In any case US retirees, with “safe” fixed incomes in dollars, are way down the list of those who would suffer. Poverty is way more of a mortal threat than coronavirus.
I am more worried about persons in the US, such as my children, their jobs, careers and general welfare.
The dead are disappearing. The number of deaths has gone down by many several times over the past few days. Oh, well. That won’t hide what is coming.

There simply isn’t a good general reason for US retirees to go back to the US at this time. There are individual, personal exceptions of course.
And the Commie Chinee navy is back at sea chasing fishermen out of the international waters around those magic islands.

China has been carrying out in asymmetric, intentional pre planned warfare against the United States via their procies for decades. China killing a 100,000 or 200,000 of us is nothing to the millions upon millions of dead babies we slaughter. and the blood of our abortion obsessed feminism, narcissistic pleasure worshipping and life hating culture has blood on its hands. The wickedness has come to the time of harvest and the innocent will be avenged. The movement of troops indicates something other than just the interdiction of drugs.
The world is coming to war with us and China is trying to take away whatever light we bring to the world even at this late stage.
