The United States and much of the western world, by utilizing the most draconian of tactics, is plunging many nations into potential economic and societal chaos as they attempt to stem the tide of the Chinese Coronavirus. Relying on dubious and error-prone projections, politicians and bureaucrats constitutionally or statutorily limited in their power, are now exercising near-dictatorial authority in their edicts, which are effectively suspending or terminating numerous freedoms under the guise of protecting their respective nations.
All Americans, not be just those with first-hand experience dealing with World War II and its aftermath or living in Eastern Europe under iron boot of the Soviet Union or escaping the Communist/socialist hellholes of Cuba, Southeast Asia or Venezuela, should view these actions with considerable trepidation.
When societies lose their freedom, it is not ordinarily because autocrats or tyrants have forcibly taken it away. It is usually the result of the population willingly surrendering their freedom in return for protection against an external threat. While the threat is oftentimes real, it is invariably exaggerated.
This is what we in the United States are experiencing. The general public has been stampeded by the fearmongering in the media into demanding action from the politicians at both the state and federal level. The politicians respond and do not pause to ask whether these actions will work -- just do something! They do not ask if the financial and societal cost to the nation is worth the unknown and perhaps nebulous return.

Yes. We can take on the National Guard or Swat teams.
The question is, are they willing to take us on? Our sons and daughters, our neighbors? There will be to many defections and, with just 3 good men, a Swat team is done. Swat can barely handle one barricaded gunman.
Here's the thing....this is a well-written piece. And very, very true.
But that bit about the majority of American people willing to sacrifice their freedoms and way of life" is NOT TRUE>
First, it is us common people with our common sense, we who carry this country on our backs, who stop at 4-way stops and fairly ascertain who got there first...we have all the power.
The problem with this power is we number in the millions and have no leader. President Trump is the first leader we've had in decades. Obama? A pretty face Manchurian candidate. Dubya....come on...first he's a dumb bell and second courage was never his forte.
This pandemic.....for a while, for just a little while, the common people decided to follow the direction of the elected leaders as we pondered how to handle this.
Yet they keep offending us. That Governor of Va not only shuts down a church, he says he's going to shut it down completely after this is all over.
The common people out here who carry this country on our backs, we hear this. We have no leader yet to call us to arms (Rush Limbaugh could be considered a source but turns out he's too scared).
Give it time. The people of this country are going to rise up. We are NOT going to spend our lives confined to our homes by the likes of that Blackface Governor. We will, eventually, weigh all the data and we WILL, we WILL, revolt.
We probably won't gather our guns and go shooting the place up. But give it time and as a culture, a group, a society, we shall flip those people the bird and go to church, send our kids to school.....
Give it time. They will not win.
I’m not talking about shooting cops. One of my nieces is engaged to a cop, two of my cousins are retired police officers. I’m talking about the Rats on Capitol Hill.
Why don’t you just roll over for them now?
Members of the military are going to shoot their own countryman? Some of whom would be friends and family members if it came down to it?
Yes, because there are 100 of "us" for every 1 of "them". Add to that that some of "them" will be on "our" side. See my tag line.
Nope...but I have previous bioweapon/biowarfare research experience (now retired), so I understand the reality of the situation.
But, if push comes to shove, I will take my 72 year old corpus and my firearms and do my best. That time and this situation are not yet so.
The point of my comment was to point out absurdity of comparing the sniffles to actual combat.
We should still have no leader save for executive authority enumerated in the constitution, only representatives.
We should still have no leader save for executive authority enumerated in the constitution, only representatives.
The economy is the only fear I have. We destroyed the best economy we ever had. This is a million times worse then a little inconvenience of staying at home.
Well we definitely have those. Unfortunately they wont kill the virus.
Im wondering how many will return to church. It takes 3 weeks to form a habit. Id say churches will have a tough time after this is over. I see more watching on tv even after its over until they dont...
The problem is people like you who think there is nothing that can be done. They are called collaborators, (amongst other indelicate names that are perhaps more accurate), who will trade liberty for security and get neither.
Confrontation does not have to be direct. But to do nothing, is not the acceptable or an American response.
I like the way you see things. Perhaps you are right on the citizens really aren’t willing to sacrfice their freedoms, it is only that they are giving the elected (I am not sure many are true leaders) a chance as we ponder how to handle this. Though a number of people I have talked to in public places (who keep a safe distance) seem in real fear, have a “what if it is true” negates all else.
"A general uprising of the population the USA wouldnt have chance. Its a numbers game."
Your assumption that just because the military was called up, that they would submit to orders to attack the people, in direct violation of their oath and constitutional mandate, and that they would comply.
What you will find is a handful of ones that will infact comply, as well as a bunch of arrested or dead commanders (at the hands of their own troops), for giving a patently illegal order.
At least half of America's population will not allow the ferrules to take away liberties. This is not martial law folks.
There are enough guns in the hands of Americans that if society breaks down, ordinary folks begin banding together for survival, no government will be able to withstand that strength.
Also...are military personnel going to club their neighbors/friends/mothers and daddys? You'll see a large defection on the part of the military if it is used in mass on the citizens.
This is going to get pretty ugly, particularly in the inner cities.
Thanks for your response.
It’s no genius on my part. I am furious at these politicos like the NO Mayor who says go to the Mardi Gras. Pelosi leads them thru China town. On and on and suddenly they realize it could be worse and right there I know they want to impress us with their mighty wisdom and we add it to our collection that will lead us to revolt.
People are only going to take so much. I had Easter as my final crap from them but I do trust President Trump. I’ll hang in two more weeks but folks, we will rise,
We are good people out here in la-la land where we carry this country on our backs. We’re not giving up any damn freedoms.
Think of it....the BEST time to quarantine oneself willingly is in March and April. Absolutely nothing happens this time of year. There’s St. Patrick’s Day but that’s nothing.
March is a crappy weather month, April starts to clear.
Then there’s Easter and that’s when I predict Americans are going to, somehow, some way, fight back. I suspect we’ll just ignore the nut jobs commanding us to stay in and destroy our culture.
What, they going to arrest 300 million of us?
I kind of think a leader will spring from it. Not any elected people but somewhere out there is someone we will trust and use to organize us. Rush Limbaugh would be a great choice but he’s too scared of late.
Those elected boobs are going to get kicked out of there.
