The Secretaries of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, at the direction of the Secretary of Defense, and the Secretary of Homeland Security with respect to the Coast Guard when it is not operating as a service in the Navy, are authorized to order to active duty not to exceed 24 consecutive months, such units, and individual members of the Ready Reserve under the jurisdiction of the Secretary concerned, not to exceed 1,000,000 members on active duty at any one time, as the Secretary of Defense and, with respect to the Coast Guard when it is not operating as a service in the Navy, the Secretary of Homeland Security consider necessary.

A close friend got a call to re-up, even though he’s been retired for over 10 years. Odd. He’s not in a medical field.

I don’t think it’s that inevitable. And it’s more likely to come from crazies with guns or explosives who see an opportunity to make some stupid political statement or from bored teenage boys and girls flash mobbing and getting out of hand. I don’t see the trigger as being roadblocks and the like.

/acknowledgment of “big talker”: though deep family/friends connected, I never had the honor or privilege of serving, and often, yes, everything does look like a nail.
I already suggested this. For citizens to volunteer to do the work that will free up trained others to do what they are trained to do.
Maybe too cumbersome to put this into action right now. Also I know from personal experience it is difficult to work with volunteers. They don’t show up, for one thing. That was the worst. When they just didn’t show up when they were supposed to.

(Even if you’ve seen these, IMHO most people many even here on FR are not aware - this would be a good time to spread this news so more Freepers and as many Americans as possible become aware of the background, in case (WHEN....) it gets escalated).
The Secretary of Defense or the Secretary of Homeland Security, as applicable, will ensure appropriate consultation is undertaken with relevant state officials with respect to the utilization of National Guard Reserve Component units activated under this authority.
In other words, National Guard authorization will be available if the states need them.......
