The Secretaries of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, at the direction of the Secretary of Defense, and the Secretary of Homeland Security with respect to the Coast Guard when it is not operating as a service in the Navy, are authorized to order to active duty not to exceed 24 consecutive months, such units, and individual members of the Ready Reserve under the jurisdiction of the Secretary concerned, not to exceed 1,000,000 members on active duty at any one time, as the Secretary of Defense and, with respect to the Coast Guard when it is not operating as a service in the Navy, the Secretary of Homeland Security consider necessary.

And here we are, not a bumpstock in sight.
And what is the reason? Can you identify it, please?
This is where things start getting tricky (and hopefully where all the social distancing and curve flattening made a difference)
If the Army pulls a trained respiratory therapist into active duty because that skill is critically needed, it probably means that they are pulling a trained civilian respiratory therapist from their civilian job where they are also critically needed. You can supply ventilators to where they’re needed all day long, but there are only so many people out there trained how to use them.

I thought the US military cannot fight against its citizens. Or is this what the 2nd amendment protects from?
War is immanent.
China has clearly attacked us over our winning of a trade war. We must have evidence to be released or something similar. We are expecting another attack from the axis of evil of a more direct nature. The coupe leaders here in usa know the game is on.
All speculation on my part of course.
Extra terrestrial invasion or attack?
Specifically, the EO is targeted towards bringing medical personnel onto active duty. I received an email a few days ago asking for retirees with specific MOSs to volunteer for recall. My MOS was not mentioned, but I am medical personnel.
The advantage of bringing reserve military medical personnel on active duty is that we have military discipline, so are ready to act fast and go where needed to help with the outbreak. We have been trained on working in austere environments and on setting up mobile labs and treatment facilities. We can build a temporary hospital in three days. Some of us have specialized training on how to handle biological emergencies.
The bottom line is that military personnel have a skill set that is not found among the general civilian population.
Don’t think of military personnel as simply fodder to throw into wars. We frequently respond to emergencies to help local responders and officials.
When you have mayors, governors and other so called leaders dictating what people can and cannot do, that have nothing to do with the outbreak, then you have a problem. Putting up road blocks, telling people they cannot go outside, telling gun stores they need to close, and on and on and on. You can bet that people are going to get pissed. It's just a matter of time before the real SHTF.
If it behaves like its benign cousins that cause the common cold, the disease will ramp down as we approach summer, while more cases occur in the southern hemisphere. Then it will switch hemispheres again next fall/winter.
I'm really worried that it will gain a permanent foothold. I really hope vaccine candidates can be tested and distributed quickly. For most vaccines, it takes ten years to test and get FDA approval--if the stars align.
Cytokine storm is what kills you.
But for those who are very sick, recall that the virus actually destroys lung cells.
There were at least a couple threads running on FR about it.
No doubt there are hundreds of thousands of medical personnel, doctors, nurses, medical corpsmen, medical logistics, technicians and who knows out there that can be brought back into service and deployed.
Agree
At the least it could include doctors, medics, decon, and other specialties.
The problem with this is in assuming that these people are sitting at home waiting to be called up. Unfortunately the most needed are probably already working in their field and mobilizing them may be counterproductive.
You go pulling the reserve men and women out of their homes, families, and quarantine, you will only get more victims.
“...And a website speculated that these soldiers would be needed to fight an invasion on our soil by the Chinese military...”
In my 69+ years, I’ve never seen such a huge govt. response to a “virus”. Like many other older Freepers here, I saw the Cuban Missile Crisis, the assassination of Kennedy, and many other trying events etc. And more recently, of course, 9/11.
Something is up and we’re definitely not being told the whole story....and probably for high security reasons.
As we all know, a bioweapon is sent to destroy the human population & weaken/destroy a military allowing for an invasion force to take over with minimal resistance leaving practically all of the infrastructure in place.
IF this is what’s truly happening, then they have cohorts in collusion of this event within the domestic communist Left. It’s those SOBs that need to be immediately ferreted, out, arrested, tried and shot for treason.
“AUTHORIZED”
It is not a call up of the reserves. It puts in place an “authorization” for it, should it later be deemed necessary. If civil unrest is considered a possibility (look at current unemployment and the growing near-death state of many retail sectors (Macy’s, Khols & Gap announced today the layoffs of most of their employees), closed car manufacturers, closed movie theaters, closed live entertainment of all sorts, ect., ect., and it would be IMPRUDENT to think this authority did not need to be issued; to be prepared.
That makes sense. Anyone who served previously who has extensive medical and/or nuclear/biological/chemical training/experience might be called up.
