BREAKING: Tolicizumab (Actemra) shown to be more effective than hydroxychloroquine in treating coronavirus patients, Italian doctors say

For the past two weeks now, we’ve been talking about hydroxychloroquine as the wonder drug in the fight against the deadly coronavirus. Two anti-malaria drugs hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine are shown to be effective in treating COVID-19 patients after controlled clinical study conducted by doctors in France shows that a combo of Hydroxychloroquine and Azithromycin (Z-Pak) cures 100% of coronavirus patients within 6 days of treatment.

However, according to doctors treating coronovirus patients in Italy, Tolicizumab, a drug used to treat moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis, has been shown to be more effective than hydroxychloroquine. Tolicizumab is so effective that the FDA gives green lights to Phase III Tocilizumab Trial for COVID-19 pneumonia. In a related report, Italian doctors said that a 101-year-old Italian man who survived the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic and World War II, recovered from COVID-19.

In another report, scientists claim Tocilizumab has been shown to help cure 95 percent of critically ill coronavirus patients in China. Tocilizumab, which is marketed as Actemra, is taken by patients with rheumatoid arthritis to reduce inflammation. Chinese doctors gave it to 20 patients during the peak of of coronavirus epidemic. Nineteen of the patients were discharged within 14 days despite being critically ill. Actemra has now been approved for use in China and for trials in the US

In response to a question from another doctor on hydroxychloroquine, Dr. Giusppe Galati, an Italian doctor, said in a tweet: “Dear @DrLuizSilva1 despite the large noise on social media. Here in Flag of Italy they are trying several combinations of antiviral included the combination HCQ + azithro. Infectivologist refer little benefit. The unique drug which is causing impressive improvement is #Tolicizumab.”

Tocilizumab, also known as atlizumab, is an immunosuppressive drug, mainly for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis, a severe form of arthritis in children. It is a humanized monoclonal antibody against the interleukin-6 receptor (IL-6R).

Good to know they have another drug that seems to have some efficacy - even though Cipro may be better than Amoxicillin doesn’t mean one should eschew Amoxicillin if Cipro isn’t available - same goes for the Tolicizumab vs. hydroxychloroquine - for some cases, the hydroxychloroquine may be a very suitable sub....if the anecdotal stories about its efficacy are actually panning out...which seems to be the case as they use a comparison vs. saying one doesn’t work.

I know. So stupid.

One is incredibly well understood and very inexpensive. The other is less effective, more expensive, and not as well understood.

HCQ is ubiquitous. Don’t know about the other.

There should be incredible momentum behind HCQ, but there isn’t. Why??? So feels like an op.

Why wouldn’t you role this out everywhere now (HCQ/Zpak/Zinc)? Talk about flatten the curve. So many people out of work and depressed, but eggheads are quibbling around the edges on this.

This is a reason to be pissed off. Clear the roadblocks on this and lets get it into everybody’s hands as soon as possible.

How long until we get some kid named Tocilizumab. Not sure if that's a name for a boy or girl (or the others). "Zoom" of course would be their nickname.

But who comes up with these drug names?

I was wondering the same thing myself.

Interesting that the bodies own immune system is the killer from this disease and not the cure.

“Interesting that the bodies own immune system is the killer from this disease and not the cure.”

All autoimmune diseases are caused by our own immune system going nuts, and there are a bunch of those diseases.

Looks like this virus triggers the same reaction. There are quite a few drugs available that suppress the immune system that might come in handy in this situation.

“But who comes up with these drug names?”

All I know is any drug ending with a “-mab” is a monoclonal antibody, a “biological”, not a “chemical” (=expensive, generally proprietary, and generally harder to make).

The “Spanish” flu continued all through 1919, and probably into 1920. It, along with reployment of troops at the end of “the war to end all wars”, to use lying Wilson’s lying lie, were the causes of the 1919-1920 worldwide depression.

So 101 is certainly poossible.

[[There should be incredible momentum behind HCQ, but there isn’t. Why??]]

Exactly- I hope it is not because democrats want to see a lot of folks die from the virus- but my cynical side thinks it might be possible

Dr Fauci is predicting another wave of infections once people are let back out into the public, back to work etc- which is what I’ve been thinking for awhile now- people with no immunity, goign back out into the public, meeting folks that have the virus but no real symptoms- and whamo- another wave- and the state govs will likely step in again and demand everyone shelter in home again- while states still deny the Hydrxy drug-

Something stinks to high heaven-

[[the article says the did not find hydroxychloroquine particularly effectiveness i don’t know where you get 100% effective.]]

There have been several studies done- not clinical trials, that hsowed near 100% effe3ctiveness- the articles had been posted here on FR the last few days-

[[ currently this drug is not widely available]]

Several countries have donate millions upon millions of doses to the USD- why isn’t it widely available? We have way mroe than enough- way more-

Yes i understand- but several studies have shown it is very well tolerated (plus hte years and years of use show that) and show that it is almost 100% effective so far- Yeah, more studies aqre needed- but one study had 669 or so people in it- it was a pretty large study-

yes, but soem states won’t allow them to- I think in NY you have to be part of the clinical trial in order to get it, and getting into a clinical trial is long and nearly impossible because they only take just so many and you have to meet certain strict criteria in order to meet the trials conditions-

Just the fact that It’s A-OK for thousands of people to go in and out of supermarkets every day yet can’t go for a walk in an open air park is strange.

Yep- NY is letting hardened criminals out of prisons, but arresting folks that gather in groups over 10? Another very suspicious act-

That 669 is not an actual trail. If you look, those patients were never tested for COVID-19. That doctor treated the patients as if they had it. Can’t call that an actual trial.

no it was a study- I’m pretty sure they all showed symptoms- and i believe it said some were critical- Several studies are showing it works- what is the resistance to it when people are dying unnecessarily? We know the drug is quite safe- people with critical conditions and the virus are not in a safe place- they will die-

This is ESPECIALLY true if HCQ/Zinc can be given as a prophylactic against the virus.

Very much stinks. Apparently Rush is of the same mind. He’s pretty agitated of late.
