One day he says it will be awful. The next he’s “downplaying” it. Sounds exactly like what they accuse the President of doing. This guy waffles and changes his tune depending upon the political slant of whoever is interviewing him. Notice how Fauci, however, is allowed to be imprecise and make mistakes or estimates and when they’re wrong, he’s allowed to correct himself. Not so with the President. I don’t know why Trump keeps him around and doesn’t truly “muzzle” him, as he was accused of trying to do. I would do it, if I were Trump. He’s a loose cannon. Maybe Trump ascribes to the old theory about keeping your friends close ...

There is no way that Fauci has done a good job when you consider the differences in his recommendations on previous pandemics with new viral organisms and compare them with COVID-19. Add to that the state of public health efforts on influenza and the failure to pursue common sense strategies in yearly flu season. Leave it that I’m glad he is near retirement age.
Haven’t you ever noticed that the “great” experts aren’t. People in that circle, publishing in government health have a mutual admiration society. All the folks that signed on to climate change are great experts too. Our Nation wasn’t ready to deal with the threat of an aggressive viral epidemic because when the President turned to the people who were supposed to have supplies, a game plan and logistics he found the storehouse empty, the experts hid behind models that could mean something or they could be invalid and the organizational structure the country was supposed to depend on was antiquated, hidebound and completely inadequate.
POTUS reinvented it from the ground up, personally bearing down on the CDC, FDA, manufacturers and calling in FEMA who he knew he could depend on. IMO now is not the time to lower the boom on the clown show but I’m not giving them bouquets either. If we had a functioning CDC we could have started testing at airports in January since we knew it was a primary threat from outside the Country. If hydroxychloroquine had been followed up in 2009 when its effect was documented in vitro we could have been ready with prophylaxis recommendations for the “at risk” population and treated the symptomatic in the normal risk population. That is where I hope we will be next time now that POTUS is aware of the need to revamp Public Health.
This guy continuously ignores the success rates coming from those doctors who are using the hydroxychloroquine, zink, Z-pac combo. Why is that? Are the doctors in NY refusing to use this. Or, are these success stories BS. Something ain’t right.
I have another conspiratorial thought. The US currently has a $60T or so unfunded liability in SS and MC. How nice would it be to reset that balance sheet by just letting a couple million old folks die from this horrible virus? How many socialist countries (Italy and Spain come to mind) with over taxed Healthcare and retirement programs could benefit by just letting a few old geezer die a little early. Maybe let some younger people with pre existing conditions go to. Bingo the balance sheets look better, we’ve reset liabilities and the countries are all solvent again. And in this country there is the added bonus of getting rid of older conservative voters, who remember the real America and aren’t driven so much by emotion. What more could world government/globalist ask for from one little virus. Of course that is only if it actually is the pale horse of the Apocalypse as many on here think it is.

Agree with your explanation. So, why not release the hydroxychloroquine + zinc supplementation prophylaxis regimen for ALL healthcare workers, so the ‘system’ remains operable at max? The hold up comes down to Fauci not putting his approval on it. Is his hesitance because it works too well and will slow the release of the much more lucrative big pharma treatments coming soon? I’m asking, not asserting.
It is looking that the shut down was a good move, since the infectious potential has been slowed. Hotspots are hot for reasons connected to foolish official policies which challenged the epidemic potentials, like in NYC. The president owns the shutdown, the press will never let that slide.
Ditto. The odd thing is that I read about a poll yesterday where they claimed that 10% of people said they knew someone with the virus. Of course, maybe they only asked in NY, CA, and WA.
I more or less agree with your post (full disclosure: I knew Tony Fauci in one of my previous lives).
The problem any executive has in dealing with public health (and TF is not a public health guy, he's an immunologist) is that 99% of the time you need people who look forward to going around to schools showing kids how to put on Band-Aids (Mr. Rogers types) and 1% of the time you need Patton.
It is very difficult to combine these personalities into a single person.
Count me in that 10%.
