So, the flu is also been out for decades. Did we say people were stupid for going to sporting events, parties, or other public outings??

Honestly, the numbers we are seeing with regard to this virus, even in places like Italy, don't seem to justify the level of hysteria we are being asked to embrace. Either the government knows something that they aren't telling us, or this is all overblown. Well, don't ask us (especially the young versions of us) to panic and run and hide if you're not going to give us the information that would justify the panic.

A fair amount of this Wuhan Flu freak out appears to be virtue-signalling at this point. Oh, you're concerned and worried, well I'm more concerned and worried than you are because I'm a better person! Oh yeah, well I'm freaked out and we're all going to die because I'm smarter and even better than you!!!!

And, perhaps more disturbingly, it seems as if a fair amount of the indignation at young people on beaches and what-not is based on the fact that they are not blindly submitting to draconian orders from the government.

It’s all about not overloading our medical facilities.

“Oh, you’re concerned and worried, well I’m more concerned and worried than you are because I’m a better person! “

And there it is. A great part of this national freakout are Nanny-Staters wanting to tell us how to live our lives and how they care about us more than we do.

That’s a good point. There’s something idiotic — and pathetic — about people even here on FR complaining about young people on beaches 2,000 miles away.

Thanks for that observation, FRiend.

So much of what goes on today — particularly in Hollywood and the news media — is best explained as virtue signaling by malignant narcissists.

The way you worded your posts makes this WuFlu freakout seem like the first cousin to global warming.

Virtue signaling.
Level of hysteria.
This is all overblown.
Don’t ask us to panic ... if you’re not going to give us the information.
I’m more worried because I’m a better person.
Not blindly submitting.

Interesting.

It is absolutely NOT justified, I would like to know what the flu numbers in NY are every year they live on top of each other, they travel on cramped subways, they have visitors from damn near everywhere SO I would expect that NY carries 1/2 of total country wide flu numbers every year also!!! I am in CA. we have 2100 cases with a population of 40 million I say that is NOT a reason to shut the entire state down NO WAY!!! This has been the biggest HOAX ever hoisted on America!!!
