"I’m also guessing the state won’t have much ability to enforce their orders if the national emergency has been rescinded. That is where they get their ability to do this, yes?"

No. The state authority comes from their own inherent policing powers. Humanity has fought outbreaks for a long time and the emergency powers of the state to take these actions has always been there. On the other hand, the federal government only has those powers that are delegated to it, and there is some doubt whether it has the authority to impose a national lockdown if it wanted to.

Look, rural people can’t just “lock ourselves in the house”. We have animals to take care of, supplies to get. If you think everyone is just like you, a city-dweller that has everything just brought to you, you need to wake up.

States would have a hard time justifying a lockdown when the president declares “no more”, though. Of course there’s always the possibility - perhaps even likelihood - that he would let states carry on with their plans...up to a point.

Yes, Louisiana (my home state) is only until April 12, starting tonight at 5 p.m. and ending at noon on the 12th. And there are far more cases there and more deaths. Go Figure.

I was not on FR back then, but I certainly can see the media working overtime to make this situation seem as dire as possible, except this time the media is going beyond yelling fire in a crowded theater!

My gut feeling is this won’t be the nothing burger that Y2K was, but not in a doom and gloom sense, more so in that the fear mongers are exposing themselves for what they are...

Time will tell, but I believe the worst of this will be over by Easter.

I volunteer with a civic org that has been affected by all this. Our Sister city cultural exchange program for Japanese high school students to visit the US and US students to go there has been cancelled. This was at the request of our Japanese host city org. They thought it would be difficult to find host families for US students, and they were afraid to send their own students over here.

They wouldn't have a hard time justifying it legally. In this matter they are sovereign. It's not a matter of him letting them carry on. He would have no power to prevent them.

I think that at some point everyone in power realizes that the cure can be worse than the disease. Nobody really wants to destroy the economy. Don't listen to the crackpots who say that's the goal, it isn't. More people will die in another Great Depression than will die from this virus.

Your response to me appears to be a press release from the company touting its operations. What really matters in this instance is —
1). How many is the company making?
2). When will they be delivered?
3). To whom will they be delivered?
4). Who pays for the masks?

What counts isn’t capability or activity. What counts is results, particularly results measured against commitments. We have none of the information that really matters.

We’ll see. There are over 35,000 confirmed cases, by far most of them not recovered.

How many confirmed cases of the flu did we have last season? It killed 80,000 people. I don't remember destroying our economy to protect those 80,000 from death. You?

In '09-'10, 61 million Americans were infected with H1N1 and 13,000 died. We are a long f'n way from 61 million infected and 13,000 dead right now and we're going to produce a 20%-30% rate of unemployment to deal with the crisis?

Someone mentioned being insane thinking this is over. It's absolutely insane to do what we've done given what we did when 80,000 died last season and 13,000 died in '09-'10.

Because of the over reaction. I don't blame them

Notice, the other ppe, if you wear all of it, it does help, if you only wear a mask you get less protection from that than washing your hands properly.

That’s what I’m counting on....that states will have a hard time justifying it if those around them are going back to work and they are not.

Well, I guess you are close. Looks like 15 to 20 miles on the map. My daughter lives in Canon Beach but works as a CRNA in Seaside... just a little farther North up the coast

My daughter tells me how beautiful it is and I’m going to be visiting soon. She moved to Oregon from Florida about a year-and-a-half ago when she got a lucrative contract offer from a hospital in Seaside.

I’m anxious to see your beautiful part of the country, I’ve never been there.

This reaction is DEAD WRONG!! I am in CA. I am caring for my 90 yr old mom in my home, I am also 67 years old I have been out running errands for my neighbors, I wash my hand regularly that is it!! The grocery stores look like they are in Venezuela, having lived through MANY pandemics that have entered this country this hysteria is absurd!! I am disgusted that the MSM has been this successful at creating this fear and panic, it is truly an eye opener to see what our nation has become a bunch of snowflakes!,,
