Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced nationwide lockdown measures late Friday as British health authorities registered a spike in Wuhan Coronavirus deaths. UK’s National Health Service (NHS) reported 40 Coronavirus related deaths on Friday, the biggest single day jump yet, taking the overall death toll to 177. The government has ordered the closure of all restaurants, pubs, gyms and other leisure activities across the country, UK media reports said. “Tens of thousands of bars, restaurants, cafes and gyms across the UK have remained closed this morning as the government battles to control the spread of Coronavirus,” UK newspaper The Independent reported on Saturday.

Mad world. So many liberties lost and so many jobs lost over nothing! People are such frustrating sheep and the media loves all this. So if no one goes to school in the fall what happens to my wife’s teaching job?

Some places are doing online, some are doing "worksheet packets". Not sure how long that could go on.

What do you mean "over nothing"?

In this county we have just got our first WuHanFlu case announced this morning. 5 weeks ago my daughter and her three boys and husband had something like flu but a bit different. For one they should not have got the flu. They, like me and everyone else in the family have been taking vitamin D3 supplements for years and none of us have had any flu or colds until this. They live out from town and she does not work but revels in the role of housewife and teacher- she homeschools the boys. Her husband probably brought it home from work. He is a pharmacy tech at a local hospital where there has been a higher than normal caseload of "seasonal" flu but there has not really been anything "going around" this winter. Their symptoms were a bit different from normal flu symptoms in that they involved some stomach distress and last night while talking to her we determined that they were more like the Chinese import than everyday American flu.

My other daughter lives in that house which is away from town and she had some mild symptoms but did not stay away from work. She apparently gave whatever to some coworkers who also had mild distress and did not get slowed down. For 1st daughter and boys it all lasted about ten days and was done. So this morning we have an official WuHaner from Texas. And except for a minor uptick in old folks going to the hospital with flu there was no other obvious indication of flu going around then. I think maybe the Chinese stuff has already been through here.

How long ago was it that he said he was going to do the opposite?

Yes, it is very frustrating. But consider, maybe all of the world’s leaders are acting with the knowledge that Wuhan virus is much more dangerous than the present death toll would make it appear. The extreme measures taken by nations’ leaders tells me that something even bigger than the health of their nations’ economies is headed our way.

I escaped just in time, and it felt like it too, as London was closing around me earlier this week and the flight out was iffy. My memories of my most recent visit to England will have to last awhile!

The additional 40 deaths, most of whom surely involved people who had serious preexisting conditions, has caused the Brits to respond as if people are dying like flies.

So let me get this straight:

A country with 66 million people loses less than 200 people to Corona virus while they lose 2,000 a year to auto accidents.

They better exterminate those damn cars before they work on the Corona virus.

It should work well there — someone had the foresight to build a really skookum moat around the whole country.
