The mainstream media in the United States has breathlessly reported that the death toll there means the virus is far more dangerous than has been reported.
But a new study made a stunning finding: 99% of coronavirus deaths in Italy were of patients with existing medical problems, which all doctors say makes people more prone to adverse effects from the virus.
Research into 355 deaths found that only three of the victims, 0.8 per cent, had been clear of illnesses before they were infected, The Daily Mail reported. Nearly half of them 48.5 per cent already had three or even more health conditions before they were diagnosed with Covid-19. Another 25.6 per cent had two other pathologies, while 25.1 per cent had one.
The research by Italys National Institute of Health is consistent with previous findings that people with existing illnesses are more likely to die from coronavirus.
According to the study, the most common of these problems in Italy include high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes.
Some 76.1 per cent of the patients who died of Covid-19 had previously had problems with high arterial blood pressure, the study found.
More than a third 35.5 per cent had diabetes, while 33.0 per cent had suffered from ischemic heart disease.
The study also found that the average age of those who died from the virus in Italy was 79.5, and slightly higher for women.
That is also consistent with previous findings from around the world that older people are more vulnerable to the disease. But its unclear why it ravaged Italy, which has the second-oldest population in the world, while leaving Japan, which is No. 1, relatively unscathed.
Most Americans are obese with undiagnosed hypertension/diabetes/hyperlipidemia, but yeah, flu.
Is obesity a pre-existing condition?
Old age?
High blood pressure?
Smoking?
Thats what? Half of America?
I don’t think this is particularly relevant. 60% of American adults have existing illnesses.
Okay, but who amongst us doesn’t have *something* at least slightly wrong with us that a statistician who wanted to fudge things couldn’t classify as a pre-existing condition?
Maybe you’re a smoker. Maybe you’re a former smoker. Maybe you have diabetes. Maybe you’re a borderline diabetic. Maybe you mild asthma. Maybe your blood pressure is slightly high. Depending on how one defines elevated blood pressure, you might be able to classify a majority of men as falling into that category.
If most are also 79.5 years old we really have a problem.
“According to the study, the most common of these problems in Italy include high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes.”
The good news is that we don’t really have a problem with those things in this country.
Well, duh...
And will they release their real Chinese names ?
Yeah, obesity is a pre-existing condition. Google metabolic disorder
I swear by the responses here that many people will be absolutely disappointed if young, healthy people don’t get sick and die.
This study, is apparently only 1/10 of the number of Italian fatalities.
Is the data quite old?
The total fatalities in Italy, is 4,825 according to the data I am looking at.
Yesterday alone, 793 died.
Yet you are reporting the death rate, based on the total dead number of 355?
Is that right?
and a carton of Camels will be sent to you!

...evolution at work.
Kill everyone with existing medical conditions and then there would be no Virus Deaths!!!!
They don’t deserve to live!
That is the way I read all these types of posts.
Most Americans are not over 79 years old as in this quote from the article:
“The study also found that the average age of those who died from the virus in Italy was 79.5, and slightly higher for women
If you are over 79 years old, you already lived longer than the average life expectancy. All it take is any random infection to take you out. We all have to go some time from something or the other.

If you are over 79 years old, any of those conditions/ailments can and will take you out. We don't usually live for ever.
Are we even getting accurate numbers out of Italy?
