Why there will soon be tons of toilet paper, and what food may be scarce, according to supply chain experts

Stuck rationing toilet paper because you didn't stockpile during the coronavirus panic over the last few days? Don't worry, according to supply chain experts.

"All the grocery stores are going to have pallets of toilet paper sitting in the aisles and nobody is going to buy it because who needs to buy toilet paper when you got a year's worth sitting in your garage," Daniel Stanton, a supply chain expert and author of "Supply Chain Management for Dummies," tells CNBC Make It. But what about food? Even if the COVID-19 pandemic stretches over months (President Donald Trump said it could last until August), there will no big food shortages, especially on staples like milk, eggs, cheese, bread and meat, according to three supply chain experts who spoke to Make It.

Get ‘liquid eggs’.
It is regular eggs and not just egg whites. It comes in a small (or tall) carton. just no shells.

“Dogs are angels assigned by God to man.”

My kids have been quarantined so that leaves me in a five bedroom house with their dogs.

My sidekick is a 140 lb rottie. I've inherited two aussie Shepherd and a border collie. When you're isolated and can only talk to your family by facetime, it's awsome to have a pup to hug.

We’ve got chickens and horses. We ALWAYS have eggs. Worst case, I’ve got about 2,500 lbs of meat on the hoof out back....

Where I live hard to find Eggs and Milk and Rice. I went to the store yesterday and in Walmart, found 1 carton of Eggs and grabbed it then drove to Safeway and found numerous cartons of Milk. I just need Rice and Beans but they are all gone.

I went to the local Sam’s yesterday after work (Stafford, TX). They still had no toilet paper or paper towels or sanitation supplies. I was not there for those things. I picked up some of the Hormel pre-coooked bacon, lunch meat, eggs, frozen DiGiorno pizzas, a couple of T-bones, asparagus and wine. I still have not been able to find any lettuce. Produce has been cleaned out everywhere it seems.

Yep - but those folks haven't considered expiration dates...some food stuffs aren't viable to hoard. Lots of produce available even as other shelves are empty.

Walmart is limiting hours and also putting limits on some products so those of us who didn't join the locusts will have a steady supply once things catch up.

Funny you should mention that. With time to kill and ingredients on hand, my son and I made hamburger buns from scratch for the first time. Yum!

I’ve been trying to figure that out, too. People seem to think that they are going to be locked in their homes for 2-3 months with no ability to receive deliveries.

Same thing happens every single time a snow storm is forecast. You go to the grocery store or Costco, and its packed with people buying gallons and gallons of milk, piles of bread, etc. They act as if they will be stuck in their homes for a week or two, if not longer. When was the last time ANYONE in any urban or suburban area in this country was stuck in their home for more than two days due to a snow storm?

It was also amusing, back when Hurricane Sandy hit, to see all of the geniuses who had backup power generators, but apparently never thought about stockpiling the gasoline needed for those generators to be of any use.

Never forget that, taken as a whole, people are incredibly panicky, stupid, and short-sighted.

A prepper on that Prepper TV show from years ago suggested coating eggs in caster oil allowing them to last for months.
