Do you think they will be funny, if, they return?
My impression is they lost their funny many years ago. The few times I tuned in over the last 20 years, it seemed very childish, maybe a reflection of the pampered and overprotected youngest generation, a generation that wasnt even allowed to play outdoors
ME-TV is a great channel.
I have the boxed sets off those shows but I like to see them on the air sometimes.
It’s lazy. They should be able to patch together some skits over the internet and with videoconferencing, and make a new breakthrough in how they present the show. The format hasn’t updated in 40 years.
Yep, I thought it was particularly clever writing that they made REVERSED the roles and made Johnny (the blond thug rival karate champ from the 80s) the underdog protagonist in the new TV series, and everyone's favorite lovable 80s teen Daniel LaRusso the manipulative antagonist in this show, while still making it believable and faithful to the original characters. A lot it has to do with the "people can change a lot in 30 years" scenario with how their lives have changed over time (especially since Mr. Miaygi is now long dead), and the fact they're fleshing out their characters a lot more than the 80s movies did.
And I gotta give credit where credit is due, Ralph Macchio really got to chew some scenery here and had a lot of fun doing new things with his famous character, and does a great job playing a smug douchebag user car dealership owner exploiting his brief 80s "fame" as a teen to further his present day career and roll over anyone who gets in his way.
There was a scene in episode 4 where he even calls up Johnny's landlord and PRETENDS to want to buy the trash strip mall where the Cobra Kai dojo is located, just so he can get the landlord to double Johnny's rent and force the dojo out of business.
,
And? Who will notice?
One of each category.
DJ, is this sketch real? I demand NBC lets me see it.
That sounds interesting. I feel next to nothing for the movies but I might check that out.
I highly rec “Avenue 5” on HBO, just finished it’s season.
Kinda like Idocracy meets Gilligan’s Island, in space.
Counterpart was a GREAT show!!
At least one good result.
After The Karate Kid, I could never separate (((Martin Kove))) from the John Kreese character. His portrayal of Erickson in Rambo 2, one of the greatest movies of all time, cemented my loathing.
I will sometimes call my toilet Martin Kove before assailing it with a storm.
I’ve never seen it. I think the reaction to it is overblown. It’s akin to the SNL episode where Je$$e Jack$on hosted and during the opening monologue, he goes to visit the control room to see how many Blacks are employed there. Of course, it’s all White people there and either Lorne Michaels or someone else runs up there ahead of Je$$e and says, “He’s coming !” All of a sudden, all the White folks in the control room run out the opposite door and have Black replacements taking their spots. Je$$e walks in and nods his head in approval at the staged Black “employees” and goes back down to the stage.
Remarkable to see how demonstrably polarized as a society we’ve become since (thanks to the leftists). Back then, Je$$e could actually participate in such a skit without being a complete racist a$$hole. Other skits, other than the infamous Chevy Chase-Richard Pryor one (now too legendary to whitewash from SNL), featured nearly-White GA State Sen. Julian Bond in a talk-show format with Garrett Morris, where Bond said lighter-skinned Blacks were more intelligent than darker-skinned ones, which got (dark-skinned) Morris “perturbed.”

Yeah, Macchio looks like he’s enjoying himself immensely. I’m sure he’s also grateful he’s finally getting to play an adult role after playing teenagers into his 40s. =8-0>
Well, I’m glad you liked it. I couldn’t keep up with which world was which.
