WASHINGTON Vice President Mike Pence said Thursday that there has been "irresponsible rhetoric" from people who have downplayed the seriousness of the U.S. coronavirus outbreak. In an interview on the "TODAY" show, Savannah Guthrie asked what message Pence sends to people who aren't afraid of the coronavirus and think it's just politics and hype, quoting from President Donald Trump on Monday that the "fake news media and their partner, the Democrat Party, is doing everything to inflame the coronavirus situation." "Well, obviously there's been some irresponsible rhetoric," Pence said without directly naming Trump. Pence, the head of the president's coronavirus task force, added, "The American people should know that President Trump has no higher priority than the health and safety and well-being of the people of this country." The administration, he continued, will focus on communities that have experienced community spread of the virus and he said Trump's action a day earlier, suspending travel from Europe to the U.S., is "one more example of how he's putting the health of America first." Trump announced in an Oval Office address Wednesday night that the U.S. will ban most foreign travelers from Europe, except the United Kingdom, for the next 30 days. "This is the most aggressive and comprehensive effort to confront a foreign virus in modern history. I am confident that by counting and continuing to take these tough measures, we will significantly reduce the threat to our citizens, and we will ultimately and expeditiously defeat this virus," Trump said. The administration's travel restrictions take effect Friday at midnight and only apply to foreign nationals, not U.S. citizens, green card holders or the families of U.S. citizens, according to the DHS.

Does that include Creepers?
NBC via MSN ... Uh-huh
Yeah, sure whatever.
Headline does not appear to match what Pence actually said.
He appears to be saying that the Democrats have engaged in the irresponsible rhetoric.
Obviously there is only one equitable solution which all people with any intellect or integrity will accept.
All comments must be submitted to ME for approval.
What’s IRRESPONSIBLE is the psycho-hysteria being whipped up by the media.
“Well, obviously there’s been some irresponsible rhetoric,” Pence said without directly naming Trump.”
How do you like that for a NBC writer’s stab at Trump?
Absolutely correct. Even this article by NBC is attempting to do just that.
Pence needs to be much more forceful.
While my hair’s nowhere near on fire, ya gotta wonder if there’s more to this ‘flu’ than we’ve heard about.
Even with the travel ban, the course of Italy’s meltdown is rather ominous . . .
“Well, obviously there’s been some irresponsible rhetoric,” Pence said without directly naming Trump.”
“...without directly naming Trump...” GFY NBC!!!
I hope for the sake of these lying media weasels that civil war never breaks out in the USA. It will not go well for them.
Say what?! Pence is in no way, shape or form accusing President Trump of downplaying the virus or of irresponsible rhetoric. You suck, NBC via MSN.
Is Pence that stupid not to understand how the question was asked? Is he that stupid not to realize that his answer would be construed as a shot at Trump?
There is alot of politics and hype that is way over blowing the virus, but it certainly should be taken seriously. Stepping up hand washing and reviewing/practicing better hygienic habits will not hurt.
The media and dems crying “wolf” about everything that turned out to be nothings has brought on the skepticism/cynicism and lack of belief in taking things seriously enough.
Still not getting the toilet paper thing, though. (IF they do not buy any food, they will not NEED toilet paper)
Yes, I am one. We currently identified 1336 cases in the United States. Sure the deceased rate is high among the elderly (big cluster in old folks home), but guess what? There is not one case classified as serious currently. Zero, let that sink in. We are not overwhelming the hospital system.
We are dumping billions in cures and vaccines.
It is crazy to not believe that their will not be new treatment methods and cures. Several dozens of treatment methods are showing great progress (not factored into the mortality rate), Favilavir, Remdesivir, Actemra, REGN3048-3051, blood transfusions from survivors, etc...
Since so much money and dozens of companies are working on cures and vaccines, the survival rate will soon equal a standard flu.
Why are they trying to rationally engage with these people? It is becoming clear they are incapable of rational thought.
I don’t mind all the posts and replies by FReepers. Even the somewhat hysterical. The information is useful, in a medical, take care of yourself, way.
What I do mind is the attempt to make this political.
I think Trump and company are doing a great job, as much as can be done, and given what we didn’t know, learned and are still learning. I reject the armchair quarter backing going on.
It is ghoulish, political opportunism that is absolutely uncalled for.
Yep.
I mean, openly advancing the idea that the outbreak will in their hopes advance their defeatingTrump pretty much qualifies as irresponsible.
Trump and the administration should simply stop any and all interviews with the MSM. Ignore these pissants. Get statements out there by Youtube and Twitter.
The article is trying to make it sound like Pence said that Trump’s comments are irresponsible. Obviously, that’s not what he said.
Pence is Trump’s appointed point man for getting official word out there so he really can’t do that.
