"This Is The Most Frightening Disease I've Ever Encountered In My Career" Says Architect Of National Pandemic Strategy

An infectious diseases expert at the forefront of the search for a coronavirus vaccine said on Friday that it was the most “frightening disease“ he’s ever encountered, and that “war is an appropriate analogy” for what the country is facing, as “50 – 70 percent of the global population” may become infected.

Hatchett, who sat on the White House Homeland Security Council in 2005 – 2006 and was a principal author of the National Strategy for Pandemic Influenza Implementation Plan, and currently heads the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, told the UK’s Channel 4:

“This is the most frightening disease I’ve ever encountered in my career, and that includes Ebola, it includes MERS, it includes SARS. And it’s frightening because of the combination of infectiousness and a lethality that appears to be manyfold higher than flu.”

He feels this way “because of the combination of infectiousness, and a lethality that appears to be many-fold higher than the flu.“

When asked what concerns him the most about coronavirus, Hatchett said:

“I think the most concerning thing about this virus is the combination of infectiousness and the ability to cause severe disease or death. And we have not since 1918, the Spanish Flu, seen a virus that combined those two qualities in the same way. We have seen very lethal viruses. We have seen certainly, Ebola, or Nipah, or any of the other diseases that CEPI, the organisation that I run, works on – but those viruses had high mortality rates – I mean, Ebola’s mortality rate in some settings is greater than 80%. But they don’t have the infectiousness that this does. They don’t have the potential to explode and spread globally.“

Hatchett added “I don’t think it is a crazy analogy to compare this to World War II.

I’m in the next cohort and I don’t like THAT number at all.

The only solution is to not get the virus AT ALL.

That’s my plan and I’m stickin’ with it...

Prayers up for your daughter.

I can't be too hard on the guy, he's not lazy and makes good money as a techie (probably over $150K/yr). I can't understand the support for Bernie, he's got 2016 Bernie stickers and kept them on his car. It's not like he needs the freebies that Bernie is promising (and can't pay for). As for my youngest daughter, she is also a techie in a different company and doing very well so I don't worry about her, although I do worry about my granddaughter being in a liberal environment. Daughter works for a Russian firm and is learning some Russian lingo, but the owners seem more capitalistic than liberals born here (I blame our schools).

Therein lies part of the problem. We are actually already having a fairly “bad” flu year. If the US gets into anything like a Northern Italy type scenario*”

NOT going to happen. Why? Mainly because unlike regular flu, people and the health care system are not blase about corona. If only people, employers, doctors, health care facilities reacted to regular flu as everyone is doing about corona, the infection rate and death rate from flu every year would be massively reduced.

The Italian numbers are worrisome. We have about 60,000 incubators in the U.S. This is a study from 2007 and at that point we were at 58,000.

After those are filled not much a hospital can do for you if you’re in full ARDS.

Some poster asked me why I post facts on COVID-19. That’s why I come to this board: FACTS.

The Spanish flu flared up originally and it targeted the elderly. But it evolved and began killing everyone.

As for the mortality rate, South Korean numbers would be far more reliable than China. Don’t buy anything China is telling us (origins, numbers dead, that it’s declining there, nothing).

I’m ready. I have Four Tnieves vinegar. It’s easy to make and there’s some scientific evidence that ir works.

AIDS could only spread by anal sex or intravenously (contaminated blood transfusions and the like). No threat of spreading to the general population.

Even if the risk of widespread infection is small to moderate, and the risk of intense hospitalization and death is unlikely but possible, then isn’t that enough to justify all the precautions you can possibly take?

I know everybody is sick and tired of hearing about COVID-19 but jeez, people! There is a risk that the naysayers might, just might, be right about the scare stories.

And if this beast knocks at your back door, it will be much too late to take any effective action. The time to dig in is now.

No Paul it is not all about me

It is my testimony of what I see and know, I do not follow fads not messaging from sources who have ulterior motives

Each of us should take basic steps in hygiene to prevent re-transmission to others. These are things I do normally and I hope others do as well. I do not believe in vaccinations as there are things in them that are harmful to the human body and I have never needed them. As to your posit that I may have been asymptomatic and infected people 3 levels away I say it is purely a supposition on your part

Understand that, and within the population where one partner was bi sexual it still can pass through bodily fluids and not in the same manner as Male-Male

Maybe they feel the doomsday scenario like others who feel the doomsday scenario regarding Barr, Durham, Brennan, Comey, etc. Do you know anyone who is constantly drawn to threads about that situation, and can do NOTHING but post doomsday opinions and scenarios?....?

An infectious disease doctor has a message about the real epidemic out there

By Andrea Widburg

You know that someone has struck a nerve when his Facebook post about coronavirus has well over 632,000 shares. That’s the case with a post that Abdu Sharkawy, an infectious diseases specialist, wrote about coronavirus. His is the modern version of Franklin Roosevelt’s famous warning to Americans on the occasion of his First Inaugural Address, that “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”

Sharkaway works for the University Health Network, which is affiliated with the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine. It is also the largest health research organization in North America. An infectious disease specialist at this organization must be presumed to have a better knowledge about coronavirus than talking heads on the news or the writers at the New York Times and Washington Post.

Whatever you’ve been thinking about coronavirus, this post will give you some rare clarity on the issue:

I’m a doctor and an Infectious Diseases Specialist. I’ve been at this for more than 20 years seeing sick patients on a daily basis. I have worked in inner city hospitals and in the poorest slums of Africa. HIV-AIDS, Hepatitis,TB, SARS, Measles, Shingles, Whooping cough, Diphtheria...there is little I haven’t been exposed to in my profession. And with notable exception of SARS, very little has left me feeling vulnerable, overwhelmed or downright scared.

I am not scared of Covid-19. I am concerned about the implications of a novel infectious agent that has spread the world over and continues to find new footholds in different soil. I am rightly concerned for the welfare of those who are elderly, in frail health or disenfranchised who stand to suffer mostly, and disproportionately, at the hands of this new scourge. But I am not scared of Covid-19.

What I am scared about is the loss of reason and wave of fear that has induced the masses of society into a spellbinding spiral of panic, stockpiling obscene quantities of anything that could fill a bomb shelter adequately in a post-apocalyptic world. I am scared of the N95 masks that are stolen from hospitals and urgent care clinics where they are actually needed for front line healthcare providers and instead are being donned in airports, malls, and coffee lounges, perpetuating even more fear and suspicion of others. I am scared that our hospitals will be overwhelmed with anyone who thinks they “ probably don’t have it but may as well get checked out no matter what because you just never know...” and those with heart failure, emphysema, pneumonia and strokes will pay the price for overfilled ER waiting rooms with only so many doctors and nurses to assess.

I am scared that travel restrictions will become so far reaching that weddings will be canceled, graduations missed and family reunions will not materialize. And well, even that big party called the Olympic Games...that could be kyboshed too. Can you even
imagine?

I’m scared those same epidemic fears will limit trade, harm partnerships in multiple sectors, business and otherwise and ultimately culminate in a global recession.

But mostly, I’m scared about what message we are telling our kids when faced with a threat. Instead of reason, rationality, openmindedness and altruism, we are telling them to panic, be fearful, suspicious, reactionary and self-interested.

Covid-19 is nowhere near over. It will be coming to a city, a hospital, a friend, even a family member near you at some point. Expect it. Stop waiting to be surprised further. The fact is the virus itself will not likely do much harm when it arrives. But our own behaviors and “fight for yourself above all else” attitude could prove disastrous.

I implore you all. Temper fear with reason, panic with patience and uncertainty with education. We have an opportunity to learn a great deal about health hygiene and limiting the spread of innumerable transmissible diseases in our society. Let’s meet this challenge together in the best spirit of compassion for others, patience, and above all, an unfailing effort to seek truth, facts and knowledge as opposed to conjecture, speculation and catastrophizing.

Helps the deep state doc sell interviews and helps whatever foundation he’s running get dough.

Also hurts the market and helps to put Drumph in a bad light.

Panic is good business for some.

There is another bias which you panic pushers have. Recency bias. I submit it is much more damaging than normalcy bias.

My family is 90% prepped to live comfortably for six weeks if a quarantine comes our area. FR articles motivated me to take action starting over a month ago.

How would you like to be living in Northern Italy right now? Do you have supplies laid in? I’m not talking about 100lbs of beef jerky, but everyday things you use and eat in a routine day. If a quarantine hits the experience of obtaining those things will be like living in the Soviet Union with long lines and limited supply.

If this turns into a big nothing burger we’ll use what we have stored this summer.

#4. Don’t forget AIDS/HIV. It killed tens of thousands of Americans as well as many others around the world.

Here’s a working link.

https://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2820204/posts

Again, this one is here and it is an engineered bioweapon that actually reportedly uses an HIV as a method of inserting the nastiness of SARS into a more communicable (doesn’t kill its host too effectively to spread broadly) weapon.

She doesn’t go into the bioweapon angle, which could be because she wasn’t involved in and exposed to that.
