Virginia Gun Sales Surge as Dems Pass Gun Control -
The Washington Free Beacon ^ | Mar 05, 2020 | Stephen Gutowski

Monthly sales up 60 percent from 2019

Gun sales soared in Virginia as Democrats passed several new gun-control measures during February, according to an industry report.

Nearly 66,000 background checks were performed in Virginia in February as the state's Democratic-controlled legislature weighs a number of strict background checks—a steep increase from the 40,381 checks performed in February 2019. Virginia experienced one of the most dramatic upticks in background checks—a strong indicator of total sales—in the nation, according to data released by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF). Gun sales are up nationwide with average growth rates of 16.7 percent, according to the report, but the surge was especially dramatic in Virginia where checks rose by 63.4 percent compared to 2019.

The spike in Virginia gun sales, which have increased for four consecutive months, shows that guns remain at the forefront of many residents' minds. While Democrats dropped a proposal to ban so-called assault weapons after facing public backlash from Second Amendment activists, they have moved forward on seven other gun-control measures; five have already passed through both chambers while two more are slated for a conference committee. The remaining proposals—including a red flag bill, a one-gun-a-month purchase limit, and a universal background check bill—appear to be enough to drive Virginians to their local gun stores.

Obviously, an unintended consequence....

“Molon Labe” - come and take them.

Won’t get much help in confiscation from the vast majority of the sheriffs in the various counties in Virginia. They take the state motto seriously - “Sic Semper Tyrannis”

If Gov. Coonman Babykiller sics VA state police on the sheriffs, then there will be civil war. If he is pushing affirmative action police hiring, then there will be very intense civil war if you get my drift.

I don't understand why all of these people would buy a gun knowing that the government is just going to make them turn them in.

It just doesn't make sense.

In my State we’ve formed a group dedicated to preserving our Second Amendment and our State’s Constitution. In the near future we’ll be holding several classes to educate the public- among these will be training on how to complete an 80% lower and building a rifle.

The one gun a month thing concerns me. That will be expensive! Maybe all the gunowner’s wives should show up at the capitol and complain about how their household budgets are being ruined. It’s 0bamacare all over again.

I'd need a new gun safe to keep up. Don't tell me the gun safe manufacturers aren't behind that one...

One of the worst is removing state exemption to local gun laws. Living here in northern Virginia, I have no doubt that soon I will be a criminal for walking my dog through the neighborhood park - while carrying.

You would need a new safe about every 4-5 years! Crazy.

Are Virginia Democrat legislators getting kickbacks from gun merchants?

Will that apply to conceal carry permit holders, or open carry, or both?

“ Will that apply to conceal carry permit holders, or open carry, or both?”

Given that there were a couple of “social justice” state’s attorneys elected around here, I’d bet on a total ban. They’re still limited to places such as parks and government buildings, but one of the clauses talks about any street with any kind of public event. The wording is telling.

“The provisions of this section notwithstanding, any locality may by ordinance prohibit the possession or carrying of firearms, ammunition, or components or any combination thereof in a public space during a permitted event or an event that would otherwise require a permit.”

That last line covers demonstrations that have no permits, so if Antifa is going nuts or BLM I’d blocking the streets, you cannot carry.
