This week changed everything in politics. Somehow, for a great number of Americans, it also changed nothing.
Democrats have a clean ending in sight to a messy primary season, now that they've gotten a two-person race. But Sen. Elizabeth Warren dropping out and Rep. Tulsi Gabbard's failure to gain more than two delegates so far means this is functionally a two-man race – two older white men who have spent decades serving in Congress.
"One of the hardest parts of this is all those pinky promises, and all those little girls who are going to have to wait four more years," Warren told reporters on Thursday, after ending her candidacy with a reminder that, in her view, women are held to a different standard than men when they run for office.
It stings for Warren and prominent women, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who bemoaned the fact that she will still be introduced as the "most powerful woman" in government for at least a while longer.
Either former Vice President Joe Biden or Sen. Bernie Sanders could still try to take that title away from Pelosi, with the choice of a running mate. It seems certain that neither will choose to run with another white male on the ticket.
But in a party that champions diversity -- and that celebrated the historic range of ages, races, ethnicities and gender balance in an original field of more than two dozen -- the only candidates set to barnstorm Michigan and appear at the next debate won't look much like the Democratic Party or the country.

If the DNC were smart, they’d let Gabbard participate in the next debate. It would be good for appearances sake.
But no one ever accused the DNC of being smart. I’ve read that they are now changing the debate eligibility requirements just to keep Gabbard out.

It’s the same old BS with these people. If it were a Sarah Palin or another woman who is Republican, they’d never celebrate that woman becoming President.
We’ve all seen this drill.
Democrats preach about catering to every identity group under the sun and then they do the opposite in selecting their presidential nominee. Go figure.
80 years of combined political experience, and I use the term “experience” loosely. They aren’t the solution, they’re the problem.

Maybe they need to nominate a transgender female as the next (half) step if the dems aren’t ready to take the full step to nominating a woman yet.

No. She’s too talented a debater. They can’t risk her taking Biden down the way she took down Kamala Harris. And Biden is far more vulnerable than Harris.
The fix is already in — Biden’s the nominee and no old media outlet will ever again mention any of Biden’s gaffes, plagiarism, corruption etc. They can’t risk Gabbard putting that stuff in front of a national audience.

I looks like Bloomberg’s millions only managed to keep Tulsi out of the spotlight, maybe for good.

Exactly. It is not like she is going to win, because none of those racists, sexist democrats will vote for her. But they can pretend that they are treating her like a real candidate.
What race? Unless Biden collapses in the next couple of weeks, the question is how much will they have to give Bernie to satisfy his capitalist side so that he can betray his followers again.
Once that happens, then the democratic, biologically-born women (what’s that word - CIS?) will feel they’ve made real progress for the advancement of women, right?
