Roughly 10% of the members on Iran’s parliament have contracted the coronavirus.
Iranian state media reported on Tuesday that 23 lawmakers have tested positive for the mysterious illness, according to USA Today. The head of Iran’s emergency services has also been infected, as has the country's health minister and a vice president who was the spokeswoman of the 1979 hostage crisis.
The virus has killed a close adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the country's former ambassador to the Vatican, and a member of parliament. Many of Iran’s top officials contracted the illness while foreign governments accused the Iranian regime of hiding the real effect of the coronavirus in the nation.
Iran has reported that 77 Iranian citizens have died from the coronavirus and that another 2,336 of its people are infected. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, however, accused Iran of downplaying the impact of the virus on the country.
The U.S. government suspects Iran "may have suppressed vital details about the outbreak," Pompeo said on Feb. 25. "All nations, including Iran, should tell the truth about the coronavirus and cooperate with international aid organizations."

OK, here’s my theory — you tell me if this is plausible.
Iran has been under sanctions from countries allied to the United States with ONE EXCEPTION — China.
Remember the Woman Huawei Executive under house arrest in Canada waiting for extradition to the USA? She was arrested for trying to BREACH the sanctions against Iran through financial shenanigans.
Anyway, I suspect that a high tech Chinese executive or official might have contracted the virus while visiting Iran and while still being a carrier, shook the hands of several Iranian officials.
Remember, a person could be a carrier while being asymptomatic for at least 3 weeks !
These Iranians then went on a pilgrimage to Qom and started touching the “holy” relics there, which in turn infected the rest of the populace.
BTW, Iran still has not quarantined the city of Qom, the government is in fact doing the OPPOSITE — encouraging Shiite worshippers to go.
Yes, that would be a very plausible explanation and in sync with what we know about the Chinese being in bed with the Iranians.
I suspect Iran is in big heap trouble.

How do you protect someone when you don’t know a virus is already all over and you don’t know how it spreads? In a culture where crowds lick holy objects and won’t stop just because there’s a virus.
Contemplate what the virus will do to our election year.

As for top leaders...anything is possible..including they were conspiring about a bioweapon and accidentally got exposed.
