Thus far during the 2019-2020 flu season (October 1st to February 22nd) according to CDC preliminary surveillance data, between 125 and 319 people have died EVERY DAY in the U.S. from seasonal Influenza A & B.

The outbreak of stupidity the past week here at FRee Republic is the greatest I’ve ever seen in the twenty years I’ve been here. That includes hurricanes, wars, elections, floods, and plagues.

Not quite. We did “Trust Sessions” for years.
I think with Sessions, there was more ignorance. In this case, it’s pure unadulterated stupidity by people who I used to think had common sense.
Actually, I am not so sure this “panic” is about getting it or dying from it.
It is about the disruption. The disruption of supply chains. Even if we get production up and running here in the United States, we are already at the lowest levels of unemployment in history...where do we get the workers from?
We are going to see shortages of items for months to years as the world transitions away from China.
The bright side of this was MAYBE we will smarten up and stop being so dependent on China...especially for our Pharmaceuticals and MILITARY PARTS!!!! STUPIDITY may DIE!

And in keeping with the theme, many are boycotting Corona beer ...
There is a legit reason to be concerned. Several really. I don’t think anyone has a handle on just how much the mass of “asymptomatic yet contagious” is. Also the problem of what the mechanism of recovery is if it is true as stated “there is no immune response” to the virus which put it in a pretty unique class, if true. Now we are learning this virus has been around since 2014 (at least) but for some reason didn’t spread back then but was contained in a lab in Canada. That we learn today has had 4 PhDs there arrested yesterday by the FBI.
So there are a couple of things here that are fairly disconcerting. Now there is a USA death in Seattle. It’s fine to say “only 1-2% die” but if that 1% is your wife or your child (or you) that’s a pretty important 1%. We realize that it is unwise to “spook the herd” but we do have to do certain things to keep the herd safe.
People arguing over which mask is best. None of them are going to work for lay people who have never tried to maintain sterile technique. So masks are useless. Same for sanitizer. You can use it 99% of the time perfectly. Same for hand washing. A “surgical scrub” last TEN MINUTES. Sure, nobody does that because “microbial soaps” reduce that to TWO MINUTES. Well, the public no longer has access to antimicrobial soaps and i doubt anyone not in healthcare has EVER done a two minute hand wash.
IOW, IMHO, all of our best efforts will fail. All we can hope for is they don’t fail spectacularly. The question is travel. The virus doesn’t have legs, people spread it. Also, as Spring comes people spend less time densely packed. There will be more sunlight on contaminated surfaces. This virus could possibly just fade away like the flu does every spring. Just delay the spread with locked down travel and hope nature does the rest.
More globalist GOP hype. Wages are up true, a little, but still coming off of historic lows. There are 60 MILLION working aged people NOT in the workforce. THERE IS NO LABOR SHORTAGE.

At the news conference yesterday, President Trump referred to a hoax. He was jumped on by a reporter for calling the virus flap a hoax.
Having set it up and getting a reporter to respond, he then said the vruw was real. It is the democrat response that is the hoax. The democrat attack on him is the hoax, the same as Russia,

Amazing isn’t it? Frightened Freepers panicking and exhibiting herd mentality hysteria.
They have practically been begging the federal government to centralize further and limit our freedoms even more. Sad to see all the “government should do more” BS.
Rugged individualism is completely dead if it can’t even be found here anymore. I agree, never has it been this bad here in 20 years. Seems like a lot of the free thinkers left FR in the last few years.
