South Korea 3,150 cases 17 deaths 10 critical, 24 recovered
Japan 241 cases 5 deaths 20 in serious, 32 recovered
Compare that to their populations. They watched what China did, and are following them. Do the math.
Their healthcare systems have not been overwhelmed yet.
Yesterday, S. Korea doctors were sounding the alarm that they were running out of beds for severe cases.
We will know soon what happens in first world healthcare when the systems cannot handle the load. Because this disease is not about the level of severity, it is about the sheer numbers of critical cases (15-20%)
17 deaths/(17 deaths+24 recovered), the completed cases, yields a 41% fatality rate.
Japan 241 cases 5 deaths 20 in serious, 32 recovered
5 deaths/(5 deaths+32 recovered), the completed cases, yields a 13.5% fatality rate.
It’s a tiny portion of their population.
Of the ones that died out of the total cases: 17 died/3150 total cases = about .5%
Of the ones needing hospitalization, 17/34 = 50%.
