After missteps, CDC says its coronavirus test kit is ready for primetime
NBC NEWS ^ | Today | Elizabeth Chuck

Some states received test kits that were inconclusive or only partially accurate. Other states said they were hamstrung by testing criteria so narrow, it limited who they could screen for the new coronavirus.

For more than a month, officials throughout the country have been asking the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to enable more widespread testing for the never-before-seen infection, as coronavirus cases around the globe rose past 82,000.

But technical difficulties reduced the number of laboratories in the U.S. with working test kits to only about a dozen, including CDC headquarters in Atlanta. That delayed results for suspected patients and frustrated public health authorities.

Things changed this week: Top federal health officials announced they had modified the testing protocol, expanded criteria for who could be tested and worked out the technical problems with the tests, positioning more state and local laboratories to finally have the ability to test for COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus. But, the officials acknowledged, the process was rocky.

Finally, maybe a month too late.

Without accurate tests, how in the hell could anyone determine our status.

Let the testing BEGIN.

“We need to have testing as close to the population as possible,” he said. “We’re going to see what I call the popcorn effect, showing up here and there, because of return travelers. Now that the testing got expanded, I’m hoping and praying it’s just in time in the sense that the test kits will be there, up and ready, where there’s a need for more.”

(End of the story, from the link)

Apparently, we will see new results, this week?

Too little, too late.
Done deliberately to try to take down the US (either the economy, or pandemic, or panic, or economy) to take out Trump.
It is long past time for Trump to fire all these vermin, strip them of their citizenship, and send them directly to Wuhan or Qom.

leave it to NBC to keep the scare going. We are no way near the COVID-19 flue deaths opposite Regular flue deaths.

“This has not gone as smoothly as we would have liked,” Dr. Nancy Messonnier of the CDC said.
*********************************************************
Dr. Messonnier is the despicable sister of Rod Rosenstein. IMHO, she is as much of a snake in the grass as her slippery brother. SHE is the official responsible for procuring the Coronavirus TEST KITS. Was that procurement screwed up INTENTIONALLY or was it done by INCOMPETENCE?

This will either be a big deal or a nothingburger—and we will know this month one way or the other....

It will be interesting to see if they allow fans to watch March Madness.

Check out this Italian soccer stadium:

In other news, by the end of the month the majority of the Democratic convention delegates will be chosen...

It’s a brand new virus. We don’t even know how to treat it yet. Creating kits that accurately detect it is not something you develop overnight. I understand the problems. The test kits China is using (or lack their of) must not be good because the infection rate is high and the deaths are high. In fact they just wait for people to get sick and put them into the hospital

I used to work for these guys. I’m surprised they fumbled this so badly. They are usually right on top of things.

Relax Francis. This is just government doing what government does — waste money and f*ck things up. Doesn’t matter who is in charge. The vast government machine is impervious to any type of competent management. It will still manage to screw up.

Compared to Obama Trump is a saint. However, this scary named virus is barely worse than most flu strains. In South Korea which is a good example of modern society and with reasonable healthcare the death rate is .05%. And they haven’t really begun the newer treatments. The .05% is comparable to a lot of flu strains. 75% of their deaths have been patients over 65 years old (typical for the flu). For the younger population, the death rate is .002% Better than a lot of flu strains in this age group.

President Obama declared a public health emergency on what was already a pandemic (H1N1). By that time, the disease had infected millions of Americans and more than 1,000 people had died in the U.S.

Korea has been doing thousands a day. They certainly are addressing the issue.

The CDC did less than 10, during most of the week.

A doc said they can identity it with a CAT scan, which nearly every hospital can do.

No one got fired for this massive screw up .
How many infected people were allowed to walk away in the last five weeks in airports and ERs.
The infected are still strolling at the airports and no testing before entering the US . Two news virus cases from Korea and Italy visitors. We have no idea if they are deaths linked to the virus weeks ago .
Why didn't these idiots just asked Duke Univ to set up there
great Antibody Cluster testing system they set up in Singapore.
That detects people before the test kits results are done .

The US is becoming a sad third tier bureaucracy of fools .
Why dont we set up the TB quarantine camp and hospital system from 1940s and 1950s.
