America's longest war may finally be nearing an end.
The United States and the Islamists it toppled from power in Afghanistan are poised to sign a peace deal Saturday after a conflict that outlasted two U.S. commanders in chief and is now led by a third eager to fulfill a campaign promise to extricate America from “endless wars."...
...U.S. troops are to be withdrawn to 8,600 from about 13,000 in the weeks following Saturday's signing. Further drawdowns are to depend on the Taliban meeting certain counter-terrorism conditions, compliance that will be assessed by the United States. But officials say soldiers will be coming home...
...In a statement released by the White House, Trump said Friday that if the Taliban and Afghan governments live up to the commitments in the agreement, "we will have a powerful path forward to end the war in Afghanistan and bring our troops home,”
“These commitments represent an important step to a lasting peace in a new Afghanistan, free from al-Qaida, ISIS and any other terrorist group that would seek to bring us harm," Trump said.
Under the agreement, the Taliban promise not to let extremists use the country as a staging ground for attacking the U.S. or its allies...

The alternative is to stay there and add to their numbers. Hardly a plan. I would add, once those precious American soldiers are home, if the people in these S***hole countries decided to start killing each other again, just send them some flowers for the graves.

I don’t know exactly what you meant by that, but I’m certain it meant no harm or disrespect.
I feel sad for all the Americans that lost their life, in that war or others. Just young, good people.
But this is a swamp war, for the good of the military-industrial complex. The only way to stop it is to just stop it. If we don’t more good young people will be needlessly killed while the elites plot new wars.
Like it was stated back when we went to that war, a surgical strike on the terrorists would have been enough. Instead it was compared to the attack on Pearl Harbor when Japan attacked us.
Someone please tell me, did Afghanistan as a nation attack us on 9-11? Did their generals and political leaders plan the attack? Were the airplanes smashing into the buildings of the Afghan Air Force?
And somehow or another mythical WMD’s appeared in Iraq, so hell, why no go to war there too.
I have compassion for the war dead and their families, but this shit has to stop.
I agree it is way past time to get our people out of that sh#thole country, the only signing I want to see with the Taliban is the survivors of 911 signing about 30 MOABs for distribution all over that country.
More Americans were shot and killed in Chicago than Afghanistan.

During the meetings, the American chief negotiator pulled out a picture from his file, showed it to the chief Taliban negotiator and then put it back in the file. The American actually said nothing. He merely displayed the photo

IMHO, this “peace” agreement will not last. Muzzies have been fighting each other for hundreds (thousands?) of years. It’s what they do.
The peace, if any, will be brief.
IMHO, we should get our troops out ASAP and leave it to the Muzzies to decide who will come out on top.
How about we align ourselves with ourselves and screw the rest of the world. Bring manufacturing and services all home.

The Taliban are not part of a growing communist movement to rule the world and the Afghan government is not relatively decent like S. Vietnam, we have no reason to be dying and hemorrhaging money over there.
By “business interests” I meant as a customer of US goods. Having a good trading relationship with a huge population like India would be better than aligning with countries that want to see the U.S. weakened politically, like China. I’m all for bring production and manufacturing home. I work in manufacturing. I was talking about a trading partner.
