Coronavirus is an info-demic, a panic caused by the spread of partial and often misleading information about a health risk, sometimes deliberately.
The virus is real, and a small number of people have been infected. But it is going to pass.
It is an unpleasant respiratory illness, but it is not an organ-destroying horror like Ebola. Precautions are being taken, a vaccine will emerge, and life will continue as usual.
Here are five specific reasons to chill out.
1. Coronavirus is a familiar illness, and not as bad as others. It is from the SARS family and less deadly.
.
.
.
2. The U.S. response has been exceptionally good. There have only been 16 cases thus far, none deadly. President Donald Trump bought precious time by stopping travel to China last month a step critics said was overly drastic. Democrats are screaming about funding and staff cuts that never actually happened.
.
.
.
5. The same people who want you to panic about coronavirus want you to panic about everything.

Why did it kill significantly more people than SARs, in about a quarter the time.
Where do these people get their information?
Ain’t that the truth. This forum has more than our fair share of them. Handwringers. They hyperventilate over every perceived dem threat, every perceived Trump misstep. They are tedious. They are the same sort who freaked out in 1999 over the Y2K scare. Believed the Peak Oil scare, etc...
Its been in this country for what? Two weeks? And they are making these judgements?
No one should panic, but when your arguments not to panic are so bad...people will panic.
Because Wall Street isn't drinking the koolaid that Pollak is guzzling.
They are already seeing a dramatic falloff in Chinese production because plants over there are unable to function.
And contra the happy talk served up by Pollak, Covid-19 can indeed destroy your organs, your lungs primarily but not limited to them.
Hey...the CDC did 2 tests yesterday. Whats the problem?
We are where China was in mid December.
Lets see where we are in two months.
Im leaning with you on this. This bug panic is gonna pass and be a distant memory by mid April IMO. The drive by media has gone into breathless hyperdrive creating mass hysteria. Theyll move on to something else after they have drained the blood out of this turnip.
The broken single source supply chain out of China is the real story here. This should be our wake up call to get self reliant fast!
Like many numbers nitwits use to incite, mislead or obfuscate, the number came from a planet...Uranus.
Thats a pretty good , elaborate story.
How about its a virus. Short, sweet and to the point.
What were they in China on Dec15th. They had just as many people isolated in their hospitals. People did not start dying for two weeks.
You all think we are at a much deeper part of this timeline than we are. This is the first out of the first inning in the US.
80% of cases are mild
He is. I'm intrigued by how many want to join him in being one.
I'd be much more impressed if they would go over to Wuxan on a group tour visit, show us the strength of their convictions.
I hear that hotel rates are really reasonable right now. But for some reason airline pilots are refusing to fly there. Go figure.
Ok. Why are you thinking that? Because thats how these things work? I hope you are right. Maybe we walk away unscathed.
And if all you care about are people in the US...good for you.
But this is messing up big parts of the world. I guess that means more shit for us then.
Wall Street never needs much before it quivers and shakes. Anything that would affect their investments can create what we’re seeing now.....it’s a slippery beast!
What about the other 20%? How many flu cases have to be hospitalized? (About a third of that.)
If you are going to start using stats like that, be prepared to use all of them.
Because they suck.
No one asked you.
Pound Sand.
I think it’s amusing that the author thinks he has any influence on the subject at all.
.....”What the actual number is we don’t know because we haven’t been testing people”......
If it were actually that bad we’d be seeing deaths at this point. We’re not...not even one. That does speak volumes.
The number of confirmed cases that has originated in this country is very small. When news organizations cite the number 60 or 66 or whatever,it's misleading. Many people, I find, think that that is the number of people who contracted COVID-19 in our country.
