Bernie Sanders on Monday night released a plan for how we pay for every program that we have developed. No ones surprised that the numbers dont remotely add up or even pass the laugh test.
The list only covers 10-year costs for seven of his headline items: $16 trillion for the Green New Deal; $4 trillion for free college, pre-K and day care; $2.5 trillion for affordable housing and so on.
Independent estimates from progressive outfits like the Urban Institute put the price for Medicare for All at well over $30 trillion. Sanders insists it will cost half that because hell magically cut costs.

phase 1 - collect underpants
phase 2 - ????
phase 3 - profit
Everyone should watch that from Tucker.
It’ll take a sight more than unicorn dust to balance those books. This is a job for fairy bubbles.
Bernie’s ‘Gnomes logic’ - one of the best,
I’m not laughing at the thought of a Bernie presidency. In 2016, the same arguments were being made on the GOP side against Trump. Yet he got elected. Here it is four years later and it’s the Dems turn at an unwanted candidate.
There are enough Trump haters and “free for me” people who will vote for Bernie. I really got scared when one of my sons told me he was going to vote for the first time - for Bernie. He’s 35. I haven’t come up with a suitable response, yet. Neither ridicule nor rationale will work.
I think it’s way more than double.
“... $16 trillion for the Green New Deal; $4 trillion for free college, pre-K and day care; $2.5 trillion for affordable housing...”
So I have to ask. Even in your wildest pharmaceutical nightmare what the hell does a society DO with people who come out of the ‘FREE EVERYTHING’ system and enter the ‘work force’.
None of them will even have a concept OF work, at that point!!!
In all honesty that’s what we’re doing now.
The important thing is to buy the voter with the promise. Paying for the promise is not important, neither is delivering on the promise - just get the voters mind thinking Candidate X is doing something for ME! and youve done your work.
Bourgeois Bernie is a magician...with other people’s money.
Good point!
I’ve noticed with the built-in socialism we already have that people are seeing the fruits of their labor increasingly directed by the government in terms of where it is spent. Lower-income people spend little of their discretionary dollars on groceries, rent, or college tuition because they are provided by the taxes on people earning more; middle-class people pay full freight on all three. The leftists are already getting some measure of “equality of results”; both groups end up penniless or in debt, dying with little to show for their efforts.
The new tax law has really benefited the mass of people who’ve decided the cycle ends now - they won’t breed, and they won’t buy homes. They’ll enjoy the fruits of their labors and leave this world without a care - and a completely new population will inherit what is left.
Sadly, so true.
I am glad you got it :)
