New Survey Reveals The Emerging “Socialist” Majority Propping Up Bernie Sanders Among Democrats
Forbes ^ | February 27, 2020 | Randall Lane

Bernie Sanders is expanding his lead in the 2020 primary field among young Democrats, according to the latest Forbes Under 30 Voter Survey, which surveyed more than 1,000 likely voters ages 18 to 29 after Saturday’s Nevada caucus and before Tuesday’s South Carolina debate. Sanders is the top choice of 38%, up from 32% a month ago—despite renewed attention on his perplexing affinity for 1980s communist regimes, Soviet infrastructure and a term that helped repress and impoverish tens of millions of people during the Cold War.

Sanders’ unabashed embrace of “democratic socialism” affixes a giant anchor around his ankles in a general election, and even as the primary race expands. But the numbers also reinforce a significant shift among younger Millennials and an emergent Gen Z—now a majority view among Democrats in this demographic—that Sanders has fueled and harnessed: comfort with the term “socialism,” as well as healthy skepticism about modern capitalism.

Likely voters under 30 actually have a net positive perception of socialism, by 43% to 39%, according to our poll, done in conjunction with John Zogby Strategies—the largest-ever ongoing survey project focused on young voters. That’s not as strong as their positive perceptions of capitalism, 50% to 33%. But not that far behind. And check this out:

Yup, three in five young American voters would either prefer a mainly socialist economic system for America—or aren’t sure.

Breaking down those numbers by political party, the findings are still more stark, helping to explain the youth-driven Sanders primary firewall, the reason all the Castro-coddling and the like doesn’t dent his floor.

First, note that even in the party of Reagan, the traditional home of free market sacrosanctity, more than a quarter of under-30 voters are inclined to like socialism. (And only 55% of Republicans view capitalism favorably.)

Yup the pedophile socialist left has been coaxing the young and stupid into their “car” with the “candy” of freebies like free healthcare and paying off student debt.

They just haven’t told the young targets what happens when they actually get into the “car” . . . hint: it’s not really about the “candy” . . . it is about control, lack of individual freedom and economic stagnation. . . an evil effort to influence.

In the Carter vs. Reagan 1980 election, Bernie backed the Trotskyite Andrew Pulley of the Socialist Workers Party:

as well as healthy skepticism about modern capitalism.

Modern capitalism is going to have to partially own that one. Bailouts, rent-seeking and heads-I-win-tails-you-lose attitude. There are reasons to be skeptical. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

——or aren’t sure.-—

I will argue they don’t know because they don’t really care. They answer the question to appear smart but actually have no clue

I have read many of your posts. You seem pessimistic, but you may be proven right. What do you think Trump and the GOP should do to avoid disaster in the long run?

Personally I think it may be too late. We needed to have a very intense re-education plan aimed at young people up and running about 20 years ago.

As I see it we are caught in a set of demographic pincers.

- We’ve had massive immigration since 1990 and those immigrants have children. And the vast majority vote Democrat. A lot of them are flat-out Socialists.
- Millenials are true-believers in Socialism, and unlike every other generation that dabbled in goofy left-wing philosophies when they were young they appear to be hanging on to that into their 30’s.
- The majority of traditional capitalism-and-Constitution supporting voters are over 50. Our numbers are only going to diminish with the Grim Reaper and time.

The only hope is to somehow turn a big chunk of Millenials onto Conservatism, and I just don’t see how to do that. The best way would have been through social media, but it appears we’ve been strategically deplatformed there.

I say we hit the tipping point in 10-15 years and then its Welcome to the USSA.

A significant factor in the 30-and-under crowd supporting Socialism is that they literally don’t know anything about Castro or the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union might as well be the Roman Empire from their perspective; it doesn’t *really* matter because they didn’t experience it. Venezuela exists only in a theoretical sense; they may be aware of it and have heard stories about it, but the mantra is that it couldn’t happen here because we’re different, the president isn’t a “dictator.” Ironically, Venezuela *does* have elections, so you could say they are a “Democratic Socialist” country.

Some of these people will wake up to the real world eventually, but many will not. The election in 2040 will have a candidate that is probably a lot like Sanders, but he will be considered a centrist. I do think a new party will arise at some point, and for various reasons. Quite high on this list is the baggage associated with the Democrat Party. When you have historical ties to slavery, Jim Crow, KKK, etc., it’s only a matter of time before the younger leftists create a third party. AOC has intimated at this many times in the last year. She said, and I paraphrase/quote “I can’t believe that Joe Biden and I are members of the same political party.”

Of course they do.
Mom and Dad are still paying their bills.

For most, the 20’s is as easy as life ever gets.

I think when they hear what socialist means in practice - i.e. it’s not just somebody else’s ox that gets gored, they’ll change their minds. At least half the current Democrat base are high-income urban professionals. They love to virtue signal about “racial justice” and transsexual bathroom rights. But they also like money just like everyone else. So when these two-income households of lawyers and consultants making over $250K per year wake up to the fact that Bernie will need to take at least half their incomes in taxes, the wheels will fall off the Democratic coalition in short order.

Entitlements and Food Stamps and SSI are nothing but socialism and we
kid ourselves into thinking we are not already there.

People have not gone hungry because they are too lazy to work, or too drunk. Everyone who is able should work for a wage to support themselves, at least support a family in that context.

Things have been free for a long time in this country for those who choose
to take from the government.

The Bible says if you don’t work you do t eat, but humans think they can improve on that by being generous. Well, the Bible also says there is a
result for every action...and here we are at socialism’s door this election.

One of the reasons I want Bernie vs Trump is that many youngsters will for the first time in their lives learn about history and the dark side of communism.
