Dozens of Long Island residents are being monitored for potential exposure to the deadly coronavirus, health officials announced Wednesday.
Eighty-three Nassau County residents have been asked to undergo a two-week voluntary quarantine from the date that they traveled to China or had contact with someone infected with the virus, news station WPVI reported.
Were monitoring this situation in Nassau very, very closely and have been right from the beginning to respond to any cases should they emerge in our county, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran said at a press conference.
The group is required to report their temperature and any symptoms every day to local health officials, WPVI reported.
No one has been diagnosed with the virus, but tests for one resident are pending, officials said.
Should someone need medical care, well evaluate it and we have protocols in place to safely get them medical care, Nassau County Department of Health Commissioner Dr. Lawrence Eisenstein said.
News of Nassaus quarantine comes a day after federal officials warned that its only a matter of time before the infection spreads through local communities.
New York state hasnt reported any cases of the coronavirus, but there have been 57 confirmed diagnoses across the US.

I just took my losses in my stocks. I can’t fight the stupidity of these people who are dead set on panicing. I’ll just hunker down and wait a month to get back in when people come to their senses.
Still letting them travel?? STUPID.
Now is the time for PT to show a calm hand. That could boost him later on.

Why did they not shut down travel?
Im talking about a month ago
Now every case of the flu will be considered COVID-19 until proved otherwise. The news media is trying to create panic by reporting “suspected” cases of COVID-19. When you hear that there is a case of COVID-19 with no connection to China, don’t believe it. COVID-19 does not spontaneously appear in areas away from China. Authorities may just not be able to trace the connection.
RE: Now every case of the flu will be considered COVID-19 until proved otherwise.
Here’s the issue I have — WE DON’T HAVE AN ACCURATE TEST FOR CORONAVIRUS YET. One could be asymptomatic for weeks yet be a carrier.
Those test kits being sent by the CDC to every states are seriously flawed.
Just saw an interview on FBN about this. So easy to fix. Too much bureaucratic red tape that needs to just go away.
This is what is really unnerving Wall St traders today....whether their fellow passengers in the LIRR have the virus
People who have returned from China are being monitoring. This is nothing new. It's been going on for several weeks, not only in Nassau County but other locations. And these people aren't displaying any symptoms.
The headline screams about "possible exposure", but the headline doesn't say that the exposure would have been in China several weeks ago. And it doesn't say that there were over 100 additional people who were being monitored, who are no longer being monitored, and who have now been determined to be okay.
Any Wall Street trader worth their salt would know this and not be unnerved.
I got a tickle in my throat. I obviously have corona virus. Quick sell all your stocks. Idiots, all of them. Like our great President said, up to 69,000 Americans die every year from the regular flu, not one has dies from the Corona Virus. More have probably died due to drinking Corona Beer. Keep things in perspective, like they did with the Swine Flu in the 80s (sarc).
As someone who takes the terrible awful LIRR every day, the damn thing is like a petri dish.
And for the last few weeks EVERYONE has been hacking and noseblowing. (Including me, I have had a bug for 5 weeks that I cannot get rid of, but it’s in my sinuses).
