Buttigeig’s people use the highway stops in NJ as their hookup spots.(See Jim McGreevey)
Why go to a park and ride so close to home?
Not implying the same reason as the 1st sentence.

In California, a park-and-ride is generally just an open parking lot with no amenities like a rest stop. During the week it's filled with cars left while car-pooling or catching a commuter bus. Weekends they're just an empty parking lot.

Haney may have been going there to meet up with someone and that someone killed him.

Or a rogue criminal opportunist stopped by and killed him during a p!$$ break or some other minor vehicle/travel task that he was accomplishing.

Occam’s Razor- He did not kill himself.

My first thought too, but it’s a park & ride, not a “rest stop”.

MA started blocking off the unmanned rest stops in the 1980s/90s, but a judge ruled that the gay hookup stops must remain open.

Never mind that parents with their rugrats were exposed to the goings on of Buttigeig’s predecessors at the time.
