RE: how many 50 year old cars are still running - some of them with lawn mower engines and garter belts?
I was in Cuba December 2018 on a tour.
Our tour guide drove us on a 1954 GM model car (very nice and shiny pink car, well kept ). I asked him later how he was able to keep the engine running till the 21st century. The answer is — he wasn’t able to. He replaced the engine with a Korean made engine.
The tour was $80 for Six Hours. All in all, he gets 10% of that. The rest go to the government. He lives on the generosity of tips.
And here’s another great thing in Havana — NO TRAFFIC. Well, because there’s hardly any cars.

The Climate Change Crew cheers!
Yep - they learned the value of taking care of their own property out of absolute necessity...they are well-versed in what my Dad used to call “old Indian tricks” when it comes to using a little ingenuity to fix something w/o the proper tools/parts.
