The sixth person to test positive for the new coronavirus died in Italy, authorities said on Monday.
The 80-year-old man lived in Milan, state broadcaster RAI reported.
Other deaths were also confirmed on Monday, including an 88-year-old man in Caselle Landi in northern Italy, Angelo Borrelli, the chief of the Protezione Civile, announced at a press conference, The Local reported.
The fourth death was an 84-year-old man in the town of Bergamo, which is also located in Italys Lombardy region.
All six patients who died were older than 75.
There are now 220 confirmed cases in Italy.
Patient zero has not yet been found. It is difficult to predict the spread, Borrelli told reporters over the weekend, RAI reported.
The number of cases in Italy is one of the highest in the world, behind only South Korea, China, and the cluster from the Diamond Princess cruise ship docked in Japan. Most of the patients have no history of travel to China, where the new virus, which causes the COVID-19 disease, emerged in December 2019.
Most other countries in Europe have few cases. Only Germany (16), France (12), and the United Kingdom (9) have more than two confirmed cases, according to the World Health Organizations Feb. 23 situation report.
Russia, Spain, Belgium, Finland, and Sweden have reported one or two cases each.

Are all six of then males?
What’s more, are most of them European?
Sounds like it.
Patient zero may have been a long gone chinese tourist...
Based on Demo ISTAT statistics.
I imagine more than a few travel back to China to visit on occasion.
Bring Out Your Dead
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.
That’s actually very interesting! Thanks!
:)
Globalism for the win (if you’re a deadly pathogen)
A lot of older people dying. Are there any reports of younger people who get this thing and survive?
Come on. Enough already.
Never hurts to boost your overall resistance and sufficient vitamin C along with NAC as mentioned certainly cant hurt.
Fighting the flu virus!
Just ran across the following article by Dr. Andrew W. Saul what seems to confirm the effectiveness of vitamin C. Along here NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine) deserves also to be mentioned a precursor to a very potent anti-oxidant glutathione, which is also used as an antidote against acetaminophen, as well as many other poisonous substances.
Comment: Dr. Andrew W. Saul, an international expert on vitamin therapy, says: The coronavirus can be dramatically slowed or stopped completely with the immediate widespread use of high doses of vitamin C. Bowel tolerance levels of C taken in divided doses throughout the day, is a clinically proven antiviral, without equal.
Fighting the flu virus, this may include the new corona virus as well. A while back when the H-1 N-1 virus was active (2009) some one from the medical profession suggested the use of a good dose of NAC or N-Acetyl Cysteine along with a healthy dose of buffered ascorbic acid (Vitamin C-about twice as much C as NAC) and it appeared to work like a charm.
???
Surprising to me theres more in Milan than Rome.
That post on every single thread is spam.
No, it is not spam. It is a freeper’s ping list. If you get pinged to it and don’t want to be then ask him to remove you from the ping list. If you are not getting pinged and just don’t like it then ignore it.
Majority of western statistics (avoiding China numbers)...vast number of people who do get the virus and die....fit into the profile of over 65, lung issues, smokers, etc.
Various experts have said it doesn’t affect kids in a severe way.
One review (German guy in his 30s), noted that he started showing symptoms on day one...had a stomach issue by day 3 with a 99-to-100 degree temp. Day 4 was full-blast 102.5 temperature and weak. By mid-day of day 5, he felt a lot better, and on day 7, he wanted to go back to work. What they didn’t say on the guy, if the doctor had prescribed anything for him.
For some reason, this smoker routine fits into a lot of the profiles (at least in China). Someone brought up the fact that in China....people have an aversion to going to the doctor or hospital (for decades), and relatives often carry the person over when they are death’s door, and it’s too late to help them. We may find out that a lot of simple care things that hospitals do, or putting people on IV solutions...helps level out the dying statistics.
I will INSTANTLY remove anyone who wants off the list.
OTOH, 16 people have asked to join in the past week or so.
Is anyone else having trouble with the Johns Hopkins CSEE corona virus tracking site?
It was once thought that there was a racial and gender component to this virus. Obviously the data would be skewed by the number of Chinese living in and around China. Now that it is spread through the world, I wonder if there is still a racial component.
RE: Now that it is spread through the world, I wonder if there is still a racial component.
Obviously, most of the infected are Han Chinese.
But there are scores of ITALIANS infected. Germans are also infected, and so are Persians ( Iranians ). So, this virus does not discriminate based on race.
My cousin lives there. There is an American military base in that region. Schools are closed. Military told not to go to theaters etc.
