Can Any Democrat Beat Trump? Personality and History Say Maybe

Ever since Hillary Clinton lost to Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election, political spectators have been wondering how it happened. She was supposed to win by a landslide.

Now Democrats are debating which of their candidates is most "electable." They're afraid to nominate another Hillary Clinton. But no one can agree on why she lost. Was it because of globalization, sexism, populism, or Russian interference?

Eighty-four years of electoral history show that Trump's victory was not at all surprising. In fact, it was entirely predictable.

In our forthcoming book, Personality Wins: Who Will Take the White House and How We Know, we show that personality has determined the winner of the last twenty-two U.S. presidential elections, and it will decide who wins in 2020.

Policy, platform, and ideology just don't seem to matter. Ever since the rise of radio, followed by TV and social media, undecided voters have been drawn to the bigger personality.

There are many systems for categorizing personalities. Most involve a smorgasbord of letters that no one can remember. Let's use a system that is easy to apply to presidential politics. All you need to remember is four birds: Eagle, Parrot, Dove, and Owl. In brief:

I can think of Democrats who could beat Trump, were any of them still alive: Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson, Harry Truman, JFK.

Any living Democrats? No.

P.S. I didn't say they would, only that they could. The campaigns would be interesting, because it would be something we have not seen in at least two generations: a choice between two candidates, both of whom love America and what it stands for.

It’s very simple.

Trump sided with the citizens and the rule of law.

They are talking about old elections, times have changed and the pendulum has swung back to where policy, platform, and ideology and do matter.

It can be boiled down to one word: charisma. Either you have it or you don’t have it.

Trump has it. His opponents don’t.

No, history says... almost impossible for a sitting president to lose re-election in a strong economy.. not only this but with only 1 historical example to the contrary (Obama). Odds are Trump will win re-election by far more votes than he won his first term with.

Odds of a Democrat, any democrat, winning th me White House in 2020 are incredibly slim.

Trump can and will win. The big question is whether or not he has the necessary coattails to carry the House into a Republican majority. I think he does...

Politics as it applies to Presidential elections is completely different in this day and age as opposed to anything before about 2000.

The Media, which has been Left Wing as far back as I can remember used to be able to almost 100% control all we would know about a candidate. Our opinions and therefore our vote was determined in a very large part by the newspapers and network anchors.

Today the lock on news distribution has been broken and citizens have access to an unending supply of news to glean information from. Of course some is pure propaganda but some is not and the very fact there is so much makes it possible for folks who want to know the truth to find it with a bit of work.

Donald Trump has direct contact with something over 100,000,000 people with his various social accounts. It is obvious why the Left so badly wants him to stop his tweeting.

This article says anyone with a likable personality can beat Trump but that isn’t true in this, a re election campaign for a man with an identifiable and envious record of accomplishment.

It’s politics so anything can happen but I see no one running against DJT or in the Dem Party who can out Trump Donald J Trump.

If the perception is that the House will keep trying to impeach Trump if run by the Democrats, that should motivate every conservative to go vote and remove as many Democrats as possible. Because without that, re-electing Trump is meaningless.

To the partisans, those things always matter, but to the people in the middle who only pay attention in the last couple of months before the election, they only care about who looks better on tv during the debates.

I am more afraid woketards will vote for “Mayor Pete” for the same reason so many voted for the black guy last time around: “to be a part of something historic”, and to prove to other woketards they are not “homophobic”. We end up with a sodomite President and the Lord will surely turn away from our nation.

Pseudo-scientific mumbo-jumbo masquerading as a way to sell books.

This will be in the $1 bin at Wally world in 6 weeks.

Most women and low IQ people vote for personality. To me that means Trump wins because he’s a winner. The rest of us vote our personal beliefs whether for good or evil.

No, when they have a strong economy, what you state does not hold true at all.

Trump’s “personality” wouldn’t have won him anything if he were championing issues that didn’t resonate with enough people in the right time and place.

Trump’s “fight back and never apologize to people who hate you” personality was a BONUS.

It’s what he promised to DO that got his voters excited.

Exactly. History, trends, numbers —whatever you want to call it says incumbent Presidents running for re-election are rarely defeated. There ls two factors that tend to come in play when it does happen - bad economy and/or a strong third party candidate that takes votes away. That’s not going to happen in 2020
