I love so many Beatles songs but WTH was up with “Back in the USSR”?

That song actually was inspired by
a political movement in UK to
work an extra half hour for no pay to support the nation/productivity.
Bruce Forsyth sang, “I’m Backing
Britain”.

The movement failed and the record
sold about 700 copies, it was said.
“Rubbish!,” exclaimed Paul who
went on to write (I’m) “Back In the USSR”.

Supposedly, the Beatles wrote that song as a retort to the Beach Boy’s “California Girls”. They were obviously competing for popularity with the BB’s.
