Global Warming Threatens Luxury Lifestyles Of The Rich
Forbes ^ | February 11, 2020 | by Ollie Williams

As London Fashion Week approaches this weekend, luxury brands talk about sustainability as if it were going out of fashion. But do their buyers really care?

Consumers of some of the most expensive luxury brands are also connoisseurs of the most polluting types of consumption available. And they're now buying more than ever.

Take private jets, on which any multimillionaire worth their wealth hops from Davos to Dubai. Despite "flygskam," the new Swedish word coined for flight shaming frequent flyers, deliveries of new private jets are expected to rise 9% this year according to a report from Honeywell International.

Deliveries are also expected of a further 800 superyachts this year, as the 5,000 strong fleet of these 24+ meter ships grows around the world. Each of these burns an average of 500 litres (110 gallons) of fuel an hour, according to Towergate Insurance.

And, if last year's sales of sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and supercars are anything to go by, deliveries of these will increase as well. In the U.K., high-emission SUVs now outsell electric cars by 37 to one the UK Energy Research Centre found.

So when luxury brands talk about sustainable sourcing of materials or carbon neutralising their products, who is actually listening?

Eventually we’ve got to get this global warming monkey off our backs. It is not based in fact and is powered by hysteria.

Global warming will affect everything.

Past, present and future.

In this solar system and all other solar systems.

In this galaxy and all other galaxies.

In this universe and all other universes.

Everything that conceivably exists, across the multiverse, on earth and heaven, will be affected by global warming.

Can we stipulate that and end all these stories.

Don’t need any more stories.

If you can think of it, if you can conceive of it, it will be affected by global warming.

(This post is not directed at oldeconomybuyer but at the idiots who keep coming up with stuff that global warming affects.)

I remember the luxury tax on boats. Among putting a lot of people in the boating industry out of work, bankrupting companies, etc., it cleared the waterways of the hoi polloi for the Kennedys, Kerrys, etc.

Yep, the wealthy will be better off without all those excess planes and boats, and other vehicles in the way...

The rich and especially the Hollywood types will continue to drive their luxury SUVs, live in their multiple mansions, sail in their luxury yachts and fly in their private jets to climate change conferences where over wagu beef and fine wines they will harangue us peons about not doing enough to fight climate change. They would hypocritically have us freeze or swelter in our darkened homes, lose our jobs due to climate policies and, be barely able to afford to drive our cars to work or put food on our tables while they continue to live in luxury.

These wingnuts from socialized Europe are amusing. They don’t have to work, and don’t have to fight for a meal. So they have lots of time to contemplate their own naval. In detail. So much time...

Yes! like the Obama’s and their beachfront island property.

I’m sure global warming is going to destroy a lot of things.

Everything has an energy signature... Everything.

If a white liberal 'elite' buys his wife a gold necklace that item has consumed more energy than an SUV being driven to work for 6 months does.... Just because you can't see the mining equipment, wages being spent by miners, products THEY buy, factory workers, jewelers, middlemen... All those actions take energy.

A person's energy signature is very closely correlated with how much money they spend every year.
