The Wuhan coronavirus spreading from China is now likely to become a pandemic that circles the globe, according to many of the worlds leading infectious disease experts.
The prospect is daunting. A pandemic an ongoing epidemic on two or more continents may well have global consequences, despite the extraordinary travel restrictions and quarantines now imposed by China and other countries, including the United States.
Scientists do not yet know how lethal the new coronavirus is, however, so there is uncertainty about how much damage a pandemic might cause. But there is growing consensus that the pathogen is readily transmitted between humans.
The Wuhan coronavirus is spreading more like influenza, which is highly transmissible, than like its slow-moving viral cousins, SARS and MERS, scientists have found...

CoronaVirus will be horrible in China and could be even worse in N Korea and Africa where there is little support structure for such a disaster and the people of those countries.
Hot toddy guy is a white looking brit in wuhan..
I guess he gambled that, if he croaked..., at least he would be consuming ample quantities of booze... I can relate!
Despite what the Chinese gov has done it is still growing exponentially. John Hopkins has a 2% mortality at this time, however, the actual number is higher because with the 17K infected it still needs to play out. This is really bad shit.
Antibiotics are pretty much useless against a virus.
Vaccination was the way to go but you can’t use it against unknown.
Real antiviral drugs were first developed to counter AIDS and yet to prove to be really effective.
Hiv drugs have been curing these people
Now consider a cost of HIV therapy. How do you get enough for a million people on short order?
Or the cost of hospitalization. What percentage are developing pneumonia?
Not that much reliable information available to answer your question at this point. The Chinese are clearly struggling to provide any sort of care to everyone who needs it. To consider they are able to administer HIV therapy to everyone is beyond silly.
Close the borders ... its for the children!
And while were at it end abortion. No abortion means reduced demand for bodies from elsewhere to pad population numbers.
From a few individual case histories, diarrhea was one of the symptoms. It wasn’t mentioned in widely circulated lists of symptoms to watch for.
I suspect that contaminated surfaces were neglected early on with this one. Notice the masks worn in the East, but also notice the lack of hand washing training in many parts of the East. The virus will live up to about one hour on a clean, dry surface.
If the virus strikes and begins to take a noticeable toll here, retailers and others with heavy traffic need to have all surfaces cleaned with disinfectants continuously.
Restrooms in those establishments should be closed to the public (employees only). Otherwise, everyone including customers will be at very high risk of infection. Customers need to know what they’re purchasing before arriving. Employees should all be trained on how to properly wear gloves, properly take them off, proper disposal of gloves, hand washing, etc.
Employers should be prepared to give all employees who usually deal directly with customers leaves of absences, and be prepared to temporarily close businesses. Stock shelves overnight, and relegate all customers to self-checkouts.
You can post protected loss prevention (gloves, masks, long sleeves, hoods/hats, etc.) here and there to watch things, and loss prevention personnel won’t need to get very close to customers. Loss prevention can also watch doors. There won’t be much customer traffic during a big die-off anyway.
Everyone would be smarter to stock up on food and other necessities in advance and prepare for *2 months* at home without going out in built up areas or to gathering places at all. Maybe most of us can survive a first wave that way.
My Grandmother died of the Spanish Flu. My Dad was 5 months old.
How is it going to get into North Korea?
Didn’t they shut down last week?
I sort of agree.
I was going all-in on preparing for this for a week, and am now sort of prepared.
My wife was sort of laughing at me, but is also letting me go, now I believe we can hole up for a month here, anyway, might look at two months now.
Gonna get sick of dried soup, but we have a small stove with a gas unit, for an emergency.
Dare not post my first thoughts on that.
No, not gonna do it, but still thinking it!
But the flu is widespread right now...
Its already started here. It only takes one, we have nine that are known and proven, who knows how many others.

Do you have a source for that information? All I can find that it is unknown. Seems strange that it could be unknown unless they don't want us to know. I notice that most other viruses survive much longer than one hour on a clean, dry surface, too.
