Liberalism's 'cesspit'?: IAN BIRRELL says tech giants have turned San Francisco into a dystopian nightmare of addiction, homelessness and criminality
UK Daily Mail ^ | Fenruary 1, 2020 | Ian Birrell

Gilles Desaulniers moved to San Francisco 40 years ago, settling in the ‘friendly, quaint and affordable’ city after running out of cash while driving from Canada down the West Coast of America. Today he runs a grocery store filled with fresh fruit, vegan snacks and organic wines typical of this famously liberal Californian city. But Gilles has shut one outlet and would sell up entirely if anyone wanted this one, his remaining shop. Each day, up to 30 people stroll in and openly steal goods, costing him hundreds of dollars.

I grew up in the 70s in the New York City metro area so seeing homeless people in a major urban area is not a shock to me. I first went to SF during the mid 90s. There were your typical homeless. The only difference I noticed was some of the homeless had pets with them. I lived in the Bay Area and Sacramento area during the 2000s. The family and I would go into SF. Once again there were homeless but we never felt threatened. The difference from what I can read is the aggressiveness, the tent cities, and one has to navigate poop and needles on the streets.

When my relatives from CA Visit,we have a no shoes rule in the house and offer botties to wear indoors. The situation in CA is just disgusting and risky. If they don’t like it then stay in CA.

Desaulniers has only himself to blame. I have no doubt that he is a flaming liberal who voted for other flaming liberals who imposed these policies.

Leftism, for decades, has promoted policies to speed the destruction of America - culturally, morally & economically.

These leftwing controlled cities/cesspools are shining examples of their success.

The incentive when you pass laws basically to decriminalize minor theft is to encourage minor theft, which is exactly what is happening. Similarly, the incentive when you allow people to crap on the sidewalks, take drugs openly, accost people for money and leave your filthy belongings lying around is to encourage all of these things to happen, only at a magnified pace. But all this was approved by the people of San Francisco; they knew what they were voting for with crack-brained leftists as supervisors, the radical son of triple cop murderers as the DA, approving by plebescite the removal of theft as a crime. Rudy G. knew as mayor of NYC that when the authorities tolerate minor crimes (squeegee men, jumping the subway tokens) you get major crimes and attendant filth. The residents of SFO are getting what they deserve; they want to live in filth and squalor, they voted for it and they got it.

S.F. spawned the likes of DiFi, Gavin Newsome, Church of Satan, and Jim Jones.

I had a penthouse apartment in the Nob Hill district, shopped outside of S.F., either ate at home or somewhere like Sausalito. The place is filthy.

Whenever I decided to go for outdoor entertainment (mostly rock music), it was Concorde Pavilion in Contra Costa or a few scattered clubs around San Jose.

The place makes my skin crawl like nails on a chalkboard.

Fighting crime is not difficult....as Giuliani proved, the people who commit these small crimes are the same people who commit the big crimes.

Arrest them for the small crimes and get them off the streets and the big crimes start to diminish as well.

Imagine that....using logic and intelligence instead of emotions and hysteria.

Yes, elections have consequences which is why in the State of Va, where the state has Governor Blackface Klansman, Lt. Gov Rapist and AG Blackface and now a majority in both houses of the Legislature, they are pushing through every leftwing law they can, joyously overriding the working people of the State. It will happen at the federal level once they get in again, and they will, we will be governed by the likes of Rahm Emanuel, Pelosi and other leftwing scumbos who make fortunes off their injurious policies that they are themselves protected from.

“The only difference I noticed was some of the homeless had pets with them.”

Panhandlers figured out that folks give more when they feel sorry for a pet. The pet is nothing more than a tool for most of them.

The compassionate thing would be to fire all social workers and give free reign to the salvation army. What are the odds of that happening? Zero? maybe none?

From the article...

‘All my friends with kids have moved out of the city.’

Families with kids leaving the city, and that's been happening for years, explains a lot.

Thank Whoralaldo and his ilk for helping to close public mental hospital and asylums. Liberalism can be deadly.

tech giants have turned San Francisco into a dystopian nightmare

Bad title - nowhere in the article is it even attempted to establish that tech giants are particularly culpable (although doubtless they and many of their employees support the leftists in government who have brought SF so low).

But the 3 bedroom 1-1/2 bath 1200 square foot house on a 35 by 110 foot lot near Mt Davidson that my grandfather built in 1920 is worth a million dollars.

Each day, up to 30 people stroll in and openly steal goods, ...

Yep. I was out there for a conference a couple of months ago and stopped off at the Walgreens on Market st. at about 9 PM on a weeknight to pick up some decongestant. While I was there (maybe 10 minutes), two people grabbed something by the door and blew out the doors with the "theft prevention" buzzers sounding off. None of the employees there batted an eye. It was just another day to them.
