FBI investigates border wall gun battle that left two wounded in California

A shootout at a border wall construction site near San Diego that wounded two Mexican security guards last summer is now under FBI investigation, according to private contractors and government documents obtained by The Washington Post.

The incident, which has not been publicly disclosed, occurred on the night of July 1 east of the San Ysidro border crossing, when Mexican security guards came under fire while protecting materials and equipment for Texas-based Ultimate Concrete, according to a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers report.

One of the guards was shot in the lower right buttock, and another suffered a light shoulder wound. The assailants were not identified, but security camera footage of the incident showed that a group of six or seven gunmen approached a job site where U.S. contractors had been installing steel barriers during the day.

"Three men in the vicinity of the border wall immediately opened fire" on the two security contractors, according to the Army Corps account. "Both men took immediate cover and began returning fire," repelling the assailants.

For U.S. authorities, the episode raised questions about use-of-force rules for the Mexican companies hired to protect southern access to worksites where U.S. crews are building Trump's wall. The report also describes concerns raised by U.S. Border Patrol agents who encountered Mexican security guards crossing back and forth across the international boundary without authorization.

SLS, the primary contractor that hired Ultimate Concrete, revised its security protocols after the incident to make sure its security personnel on both sides of the border have met U.S. screening standards, the report stated.

FBI agents made an unannounced visit to the San Diego area offices of SLS on Jan. 22, and executives from the company immediately sent a letter to the Army Corps expressing shock and concern that federal investigators had arrived to ask questions about the shooting.

We don't need Smirking Wray and his Federal Bureau of Injustice coup plotters on this.

We need the U.S. military at all border construction sites.

It won't happen, because of the fear of an "incident." Well, we've already had multiple "incidents."

See folks, it really is a border. That's why we have them.

Something to point out is that this was Mexicans on the Mexican side shooting at Mexican security personnel also on the Mexican side. Even if we had US military on scene, they would not have been allowed to shoot into Mexico unless they themselves were fired on - and it’s notable that the hostiles didn’t fire on anyone on the US side.

So the noodle spine took a break from stabbing our president in the back to actually do something? This man is worthless, he couldn’t clean out a closet let alone a corrupt agency. What a kick in other face of real FBI agents.

That's a good point, and you are correct. However, the U.S. side is only feet away. Sounds like things could escalate very, very quickly.

And, when Wray was confronted with overwhelming evidence that the FBI itself committed crimes (perjury, obstruction of justice, altering government documents) with FISA, he called it an "oversight" (Whoopsie!) and ordered "increased training" for FBI agents.

So now, they view a 15 minute Power Point presentation on their computers, and it's all good.

What a joke.

Who is Wray's boss again?

Oh, yeah.

Yes, and there’s no telling what the hostiles would have done if they’d overcome the Mexican security personnel. No telling if it was something personal to the Mexican nationals either.

That said, even if we’d had 3rd Infantry sitting right the heck there, unless the Mexican hostiles had crossed the border they couldn’t have done anything. And as the Mexican security demonstrated, it’s not a bad idea to have Mexican security watching their side of the border while construction is going on.

At least the Mexican guards SHOT BACK instead of forming a commission to look into why they did that.

In looking for evidence that Barr isn’t just another garden-variety, political hack swamp rat, I have trouble seeing it. Does anybody see any evidence of significant political justice coming out of the DOJ?

No. All we get her and less promises that it’s coming. Barr has declined to prosecute Comey, McCabe, and other criminals — even after that worthless twit Horowitz recommended it. Some say this is because Barr wants to go after bigger crimes, but I don’t buy it. That’s not the way federal prosecutors in the department of justice approach cases. Even with mafioso, they were overcharged him and charge him with anything and everything. All Barr did was weaken his hand. That tells me he really doesn’t want to go after FBI and DOJ criminals.

My feeling is, in the end, he will give us a scalper to. But never Obama. Never Hillary. Never saw Soros. Never members of Congress.

So what are the implications here? Are we worried the Mexican security guards were actually in cahoots with the bad guys? Or is the border patrol trying to prevent the good guys from doing their jobs—again?
