Is this it? Davenport resident Donna Zubroski asked Wednesday afternoon, glancing around the near empty crowd gathered for a presidential campaign event in Davenport.
The event was for former U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh, a Republican running against President Donald Trump in the Republican caucuses. The crowd was mostly journalists.
Zubroski, a Democrat, had finished lunch at The Family Restaurant when a journalist told her about the event.

Some states are not having a Republican Presidential primary this year. I’m thinking of Registering RAT and then voting for Bernie. I figure such an election would be a good way to contrast capitalism verses socialism. (That and it would make the Nixon/McGovern blowout look tame by comparison). Some young fools who believe in socialism might even learn something and grow up!
No, those young socialists will not grow up. I have had this argument with a few people. Socialism is a secular religion and its adherents are as fervent as any follower of a traditional religion.
Socialists cannot change because to do so would be to deny their religion: The State is God.
To put it another way: Would you walk away from the religion you believe after such a minor demonstration in an election campaign?

Problem is, there’s nothing there to lobotomize.
His show was terrible. I can’t believe it lasted as long as it did. I tuned in a couple of times and he was railing against Hannity and others saying they were telling people we had the “election in the bag” in 2018 and there was nothing to worry about. All total nonsense - they were saying just the opposite.
You’re right, they won’t. The Project Veritas vids of his campaign staff prove that - they know full well what his views represent and they literally want to turn the US into the Soviet Union, complete with gulags and re-education camps for those that disagree with them.
True, but even religions have people who figure out it's not for them. Even with a death penalty , like Islam , some people still leave. Christianity has plenty of room for more sinners to see the light!
It will be very, very few and even then only after Socialism has taken over and caused intense suffering and their beliefs are shattered.
Looking at it today, you can see the phony-baloney items in the background that were added later in post production.
When I was kid, I thought Joe just held his breath while the props floated away.
Nice work for circa 1978 though.
I thought he died last year.
Uh, well, uh, gee, uh, let's 'm see, well, I will call a meeting of recognized experts and tell them to come up with a plan...
Reduces them to gibbering idiots every time, every single one, every single time except the Orange racist in the red MAGA hat.
Thank you, for both the succinct description of DJT, and for the incredible anecdote.
We are Southerners in my house, but we are thankful everyday that that bombastic New Yorker set aside his wonderful life to step up for all Americans.
May God keep watch over him.

I used to listen to him until I texted him about a factual error he repeated about ten times. He didn’t take kindly to bring corrected and was pretty nasty about it so I figured to hell with him. I listen to his home station and he did a lot of commercials and I didn’t want to hear him so I’d switch stations until he was finished. Among his last promos for his show was one that said he was a conservative who wasn’t afraid to disagree with Donald Trump and tell him so. I’ll bet Trump lies awake at night worrying about that. After Walsh left to “run for president,” some of his on-air colleagues made comments that made it pretty clear that they weren’t sad he left. One called Walsh a crank. That says it all.
